That would be it. A 3VZ block with FE heads and 5VZ-FE intake. I am still looking into what fuel injectors to use before I button it all up for good. I put alot of assembly lube on the parts since I'm not sure when it'll get started. I am shooting for the end of summer to get it done, but realistically itt'll be winter which is fine with me.....I had alot of fun last winter up on Brimstone and Windrock in my Taco......it'll be even more fun this year with my more powerful 4Runner with 5 inches of lift.

Cebby is going to make header flanges for the new heads. With no crossover pipe and better breathing heads, this 3VZ shouldn't be the time bomb that most have come to think of it as.

I'm glad that I took a picture at this angle actually........if you look close, you can read 3VZ on the engine block just below the head.

Dan...
What's the difference between the engine you have put together and a 3vzfe with a 3vze pan and a 5vzfe intake?

Wouldn't it be easier to just start with a 3vzfe...they're CHEAP!

Camry owners seem to love the 3vzfe due to its flat torque curve (about 200 ft. lbs.) and I haven't read of any headgasket problems. I don't know when the torque comes on, but it's probably fairly low. And the cams are supposedly interchangeable with the 5vzfe if you want a little different curve.

Edit: I may have just found my answer. The 3vzfe is distributorless. It would probably mean doing an custom engine wiring harness and a new ecu. Which is the same problem with the 5vzfe.

Well, to be honest, you could probably start with a 3VZ-FE. You'd need to use the 5VZ-FE intake, 3VZ-E oil pan and oil pick-up, and a 92-93 3VZ-FE ignition. I opted to do it this way because I wanted to rebuild after one of my rod bearings spun on me. I could get an old 3VZ-FE or 5VZ-Fe for that matter, but it wouldn't be as reliable as a freshly rebuilt 3VZ with all of the head gasket issues addressed and taken care of.

You are right about a 3VZ-FE being distibutorless on the later models, but the '92-93 models had distributors. If they are cheaper than the 5VZ-FE, it might be an easier swap since you wouldn't be changing out the ECU and wiring harness.

Thanks for pointing out some more advantages to this swap. I have no idea why this tread is over on this side of the board though since I didn't start it. It should be under the 4Runner and truck section that actually have 3VZ-E engines in them. I'll have to ask Cebby to move it.

Its pretty obvious it was a failed project. It was a long shot to begin with. My advice, swap in a 5VZ don't try to turn a 3VZ into a 5VZ.
