2nd Gens, who wants an engine swap?
#122
I have done the 7mgte swap in my 93 toy xcab.

The 2jz-ge swap IMO is only worth it if you are going to make it a turbo.
You can throw a turbo on the 2jz-ge pretty easily using the stock 2jzge ECU if you only boost around 5-7 p.s.i. Anything more and you'll need to upgrade your ECU system. I would use the 2wd mkIV supra TT auto tranny. They are stronger and have more clutch packs inside. They can easily withstand 400+
RWHP. Now with big tires it would be less but could still handle 350+ RWHP.
I have been running over 250 RWHP on my 93 a340H auto tranny for over 2 years with no problems( with 35" mtr's). For the 2wd tt auto tranny you would run a divorced T-case using OTT's adapter. THen you can use the desirable gear driven toy t-case instead of the POS hydraulic a340h t-case.
There is no difference in doing a 7mgte or 2jzte swap if you know what you are doing. I have done both. Both motors are abou the same size and fit respectively the same way in the engine bay. There are a few differences with the oilpans but nothing big. If you are going to do the swap RIGHT you will in both cases be making you're own motor mounts so the swaps are abouy equal, labor wise. If you do the swap trying to use the stock 4 clylinder
Motor mounts, the motor is not in the IDEAL position. It works but you can position it better, further back and lower in the bay making your own motor mounts. If you do it right it'll take less than 2hrs to do the mounts. Sorry i can go on forever. there are so many possibilities. Just my 2 schillings

well, the 2ZJ is about 2 inches longer. And I don't know about the 22R mounts. Never tried it....Yet. I will still make custom mounts. It takes me a couple hours to fab up some engine mounts anyway. Then I get custom placement.
2JZ swap is a much better swap for horsepower, but I believe the 7M may be better for some low end torque, because the 7M has a much longer stroke. Hmm, Iill have to go look at some stock torque curves.

I'm interested in the 2jzge swap, and I have a Second Gen 1995 4Runner . I think that the turbo would create to many troubles, where do you stick the intercooler ? not alot of xtra space under the hood with an inline six packed in there.
