I'm one of the 50. You know I want in on that!

What do we need to do now?

Sit back and wait on Mike
Mike is in touch with the guy @ Amsoil. Sam will send in a used filter, and then Amsoil can produce their 1st batch of 50.

Perhaps Mike will be able to be the reseller of this first batch.
This will be cool to have a high quality filter on.
I took off the K&N over a year ago.

They already make one for a carbed engines, part # TS72. I ordered an Amsoil filter for my 22RE a few months ago and got one that was made for a later style 22RE airbox so it didn't fit. The Amsoil filter in my opinion was constructed rather poorly and looked "cheap" compared to a stock Toyota filter. Maybe I got a bad one but I'd rather stick w/ OEM filters. If it's good enough for Toyota, it's good enough for me.

same as 87-92 Supra

I had a K&N for my 89 Supra Turbo, and it's the same as the one in my 95 'runner. I verified it at the K&N website. So, if they sell 'em for 87-92 Supras, ya'll are in there.

I spoke with Ed, a rep for Amsoil. I have the address to send the sample filter. Will send it off Tuesday Sept 22. We'll see what happens from here.

Thanks all,
Sam

Hey everyone...alright well I spoke to AMSOIL today and they do not have the tooling to do those 2nd Gen filters. Samgotit, do not worry about sending them the filter, they indicated they will not need it. What they do need, and if someone here could help out (seeing as I do not have a 2nd Gen) is some photos of a few things. If someone could send an email to michael@xtremeoff-road.com with pictures of the following I will get them to AMSOIL. They are going to try to make a custom filter for you guys. I need a picture of the engine compartment, the airbox, and if possible a picture of the intake and inside of airbox. Once I receive that I will forward it on to them. I will be in touch with any updates. Have a great one guys!

Mike

Just sent you two pics of the engine bay I took a month ago after washing the bay.

If no one get you any shots of the air box close up, and opened, I'll try to get some tomorrow.

Well this little project has been all my pleasure. We should thank Mike and Corey. Mike and Corey have obviously been in touch with Amsoil from the beggining.

Mike, if you don't get those photos by sept. 24 night please post saying so. I have a digital camcorder and can take stills with it but the quality sucks or maybe Corey can get them.

On our way.

Thanks for all the support,

Sam

These are the pics I have as of now.
http://www.toyotaoffroad.net/tando/air_filter/

Ran out of time to take the filter all the way out as it's getting dark outside.
I'll have to shoot for one tomorrow of the air filter all the way out, and the lid out of the way.

First off, you are all very welcome, I am happy to help you guys out!!

They have reviewed the pictures and have some more questions. Here is a few things that they would like to see, please send an email to michael@xtremeoff-road.com if you are able to help. Pictures of the airbox out of the vehicle. Dimensions of the airbox, indside of the airbox...

They also asked if they could get a filter to use. I know that I told you they did not need one, however, now they would like to see one as this is more challenging then they thought. Also, does anyone have an airbox from a second gen laying around? I know the chances of this is slim, however, I am just requesting the stuff they wanted in order to get this taken care of for us. I seem to think that if they have a sample filter, they can use that, so we will see. Anyhow, if any of you can help out with any of this stuff that would be great. For the individual who is willing to send a filter, I have the address where it should go so just email me. Have a great one guys!

Mike

Thanks for the help Phil. We appreciate it! :fireman:

I see that Isidore got you pretty wet too! Mobile got pounded by Isidore, our front and back yard is a mess from all of the branches that fell down during the storm, and we don't know what happened with our house on Dauphin Island because it is still closed (the entire west end of the island where our house is was under knee-deep water!!) Oh well, at least the 4Runner got a good washing!

Not that I would stray to another message board, but what other 4Runner message boards are you referring to?
