Has anyone out there put a diff drop on theirs. My CV's are quite exteme at the moment since i put my BJ spacers in and although i have manual hubs, i'd like to drop them a bit. Anyone have any info or pics. Have done a search but cant find anything!

bump, I'm also interested in this, looks like the sway bar would have to come off for the diff to clear. All the diff drops seem to be for 3rd gens.

 

Someone figure it out so I dont have to. I was looking at it the other day, and have no idea where to start.

 

When I asked steve Schaeffer this very question he replied. "It is not possible to do a front spacer diff drop on a 2nd Gen 4Runner, the front pumkins are completely different. The 2nd Gen is like a rear axle and the 3rd Gen is like a clam shell."

It looks like us second generationers are SOL.

 

What exactly is the difference between a "diff drop" and dropping the diff with the available lift kits for second gens? All the 4" lift kit is on mine is a diff drop. Well, it drops the inboard ends of the suspension arms too. Is that the difference?

 

It's not possible to do because of the front mount if you had a way to drop the front mount down ya you could put spacers in to drop it. Even with a offset bushing in the front you would only be able to drop it down maybe 1/2"

 

A diff drop is just droping the diff, not the whole front end. All the A-arms, crossmembers, etc. stay in the same place, but the diff is dropped within that IFS mess.

I think the old ass Rancho IFS 3" kits used some sort of weird diff drop instead of drop brackets like everybody else, but I don't think they sell that kit anymore.



Are your torsion bars cranked up right now? One of the benefits of BJ spacers is that you don't have to crank the t-bars. I have the spacers on my '88 (no t-bar crank) and they work great. I don't think my CV angles are that bad at all. I'll see if I have any pics.

 

Here is my CV angle-I am currently running with both inner boots torn. I still think it is because of cheap boots that came on aftermarket axles...

 

Yoe see, i have 3.5" of lift in the back with 2" springs and 1.5" daystar spacers so i left the front t-bars slightly cranked so it wouldnt look like a total hot rod. It would be possible to put maybe 1/2" spacers in the two back supports and let it swivel on the front support a the cross member but that would shift the diff slightly forward as well as down which might be bad. Guess i'll have to put up with it until some genius comes up with a great idea!
