This morning I decided to change the oil for the first time in my 94 PU. I drained all the oil out found the oil filter and was about to replace that. Only thing is the oil filter is in the hardest to reach place ever. I can barely get my arm in there. So I dunno how I could get the filter in there and change it. Whats the best way to change this bad boy?

 

Craftsman strap wrench or Craftsman "socket" oil filter for a rachet.

 

haha you think thats tough try changing the fuel filter....that is if you can find it

 

my 4x4 has an access panel through the passenger side wheel well. i dont know if the 2wd has one, seems like it should. its held on by 4 bolts. after that, either an oil filter wrench or a rag and a kung fu grip

 

it is pretty bad the first time i done mine i thought i would be better off pulling
the motor to get to it but the strapwrench does work good

 

mine's pretty easy to get to -- bu i've got a carb so my manifold doesn't take up half the engine bay.

 

umm...i dont think it is all the hard to get to...get one of those rubber things to take off the lid of a jar and use that if you have problems getting it off. I have always put my hand/arm in though the front of the engine, parallel with the engine block. After changing my oil once I can do it on my truck in like 5 minutes.

 

Its easy to change the oil filter...Reach up from below and twist...

take the tire off and reach straight in and twist it off... easy.

 

even on a 22re, it is pretty easy to get to... i have changed many in hte same way i change mine.....

 

I don't know why, but it seems like on the 4Runner, the oil filter "sticks", or becomes very difficult to remove, where on the p/u it spins right off with no trouble. Don't know why. But I reach them both the same way, reaching down parallel to the block above the A/C. It IS a little tougher on the 4Runner with all the intake stuff in the way, but same basic principle. I didn't even know about the little hatch in the wheel well until just recently. Sure wish I'd known about it the first time I'd tried to replace the fuel filter, though. Took me over 4 hours...
