I'm wondering what the differences are also. I got one in my 94 2wd parts truck, and I'm wanting to do the same thing your doing. Sorry for the lack of help, just letting you know I'm curious too. Guess I can help ya with a bump.

What year celica is that coming out of? I think the early 90's model celicas had a 4cyl that put out more HP than the 22RE did.

22RE was available in the celica from '83-85. the 85 had the late model block, the rest had an engine just like the 22R in trucks. the wiring is different...but the good thing is that if you're already wired up for a 22RE, just swap the upper plenum onto the celica motor's lower plenum and call it done. i think the earlier engines were rated a bit lower than the post 85 ones, anybody know why this is? is it because of the lower compression?

[edit] i forgot to add, the early model(short head tall block, pre 85) 22REs didn't have a knock sensor, so you'll have to do something about that. i've heard you can just weld a nut that the sensor screws into onto one of the motor mounts and you'll be fine
