I have a 93 toyota pickup with a 22r and it takes almost a half mile to get to 55mph this is a major power loss, I tuned the engine up, replaced the plugs wires, rotary button and so on but it had no effect. What else should i check?

I'd like to know as well. I experience the exact same thing, only with my carb'd engine. Did a tune up, not plugs yet, but will on tuesday, but even with new distributor cap, rotor, air filter its buggy. The plug wires are only a year old.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, just bump it up, and see if your problem is the same as mine.

Check your brakes aren't dragging...

Jack up the front end, remove tyres, turn hubs my hand, check for brake pistons that aren't retracting back into caliper.

I could barely rotate my front drive shafts by trying to rotate the brake disc and had to lever the pistons away from the disc.

Another possibility is that your clutch is slipping. From memory, a good test is to cruise up a hill in, say, 2nd gear and then change into 4th. If your revs drop back and your engine struggles this is good, but if your revs go up then the clutch must be slipping.

Also check your back drum brakes when you do the front. I just pulled mine off and the ebrake was frozen in the out (engaged) position. I free'ed up everything in the back by working it around and lubed it all up till they worked smooth again. I also replaced my calipers on the front, as they had become "lazy", like Hilux 1990 described. That also made a noticable difference with power and milage. Lastly when did you last change the fuel filter? Try changing the fuel filter and run some cleaner thru the system. I used a product called Sea Foam and have gotten good results.

The 22r sounds like carb problems, and you w/ the 93 is it an r or re?
The 22re can lose some guts if the tps is misadjusted or the air intake plumbing has a crack or open spot... Clean your throttle body and check the timing also. For both motors valve lash is crucial. .008 intake and .012 exhaust unless an upgrade cam is present... then go by cam specs. The 22r has adjustment screws on the carb, look in your fsm or other quality repair manual. The re has some adjustments that can also be found in same.

The brakes is probably what is doing mine in. My brakes which just got serviced in january are squeeking and I can hear a "clang" when I first depress the brakes. Then yesterday they sounded like a train coming to stop, with the heavy metal on metal grind.

I will run carb cleaner through it as well.

Did you check what code the computer is showing? My Celica with a 22re had the same problems. No power, took forever to get to 55-60, BAD exhaust smell, and low mileage. You need to short the test pins, then turn the ignition on and watch the check engine light flash the code(s). Mine showed like 10 codes at the same time like TPS, comp malfunction, etc. There are a few places online that shows how to do this check, but don't remember the sites. It also shows how to do this in the Chilton and Haynes books.
