Question 22R-RE, How many Quarts of Oil?

How many quarts of oil am I supossed to use with the 22RE engine?

I find it helpful to use an additive in a .5quart container, then you can easily add 4 quart sof oil. Just a thought.

Why don't you just say that you put in 5?

I've never seen the 4.9 recommendation, but I believe you. Do you think us 4.5ers are causing harm?

The 4.9 figure is directly out of the '85 Owner's Manual from my 4Runner. I think that is a dry fill and I doubt you can drain every single drop from the engine. Better to underfill a little than to overfill. If I do 4.5 qts. it is close to the top mark on the dip stick. My engine uses some oil, so it is usually down to the add line by around 1500-2000 miles.
