should I think the 20r has pear shaped exhaust ports and the 22r has round. The shape is not a show stopper, the ports are similar in size.

20R and early(81-84) 22R exhaust ports are round. late(85-95) 22R exhaust ports are pear-shaped

20R intake ports are round, 22R intake ports are square

Kinda off topic, but why pearshaped? Better flow?

don't think it's really a major thing, more of a manifold cleanliness issue. instead of the "pear" connecting the exhaust ports and the little holes(air injection?) above them, they connect directly to the manifold and tend to clog up with junk. just mostly speculation though, since i've never taken a good look at an '85-up manifold
