LOOKING GOOD!!!

Does anyone think it is a bit odd that it has a Chevy "sibling"? Seems to me if the Chevy is thousands less say, you could just get it and have the same truck.

It's confirmed that the new taco is riding on the Prado/4runner/Gx470 platform. I hope that means there will be more suspension products compatible with 4runner and tacos, ie. lifts, skids, gears, bumpers, etc.

Notice the glove compartment handles. It's offset to the driver side. My old expedition and f-150 had the same feature. The 4th gen 4runners don't. It's better to have it offset to the driver, so when you cruising on the freeway and need a straw from the glove compartment you don't have to reach to far.

But you shouldn't be doing "lines" on the freeway anyway... so the center mounted release is a safety feature

You know, I just noticed the gated shifter. I LIKE the gated shifter. I never understood why more people don't use them. Gated shifter with 5sp auto....mmmm, yay.

So is anybody besides me ready to see the normal, everyday, painter, window glass carrier version of this thing?

The Colorado/Canyon is based off of the Izuzu D-Max and even shares the Isuzu I5 engine. Heres a link:http://www.isuzu.co.jp/world/product/dmax/

It looks like the Tacoma/Colorado share similar styling, such as the fenders. The front suspension alone seems to be completely different though considering the new Tacoma has front coil suspension and the Colorado torsion bars.

Not according to what I read today. They are the same except for motors. The Chevy will have the inline engine.

I am pleased this is a design based on a Toyota platform, however, according to the article, you can buy a Chevy and get the same truck. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the trucks are built at a joint venture plant (between Toyota and GM) by the same people. (read: Same Truck)

I'm curious to see how this impacts sales. Are we as a whole so oblivious we spend more just because it says Toyota or do we realize we can save our hard earned dollars and buy a Chevy?

It states the Canyon/Colorado and Tacoma are "siblings".

"Chevy/GMC offers an inline-5 engine rated at 220 horsepower and 225 lb-ft for the Colorado/Canyon siblings."

Is this the statement your talking about? It says the Colorado/Canyons are siblings.

I dont care if an article says toyota and chevy are the same. I am gonna end up spending more money on the chevy because of reliability measures. I will never buy a chevy. I have no reason too. Toyota and Chevy will never be on the same playing field again.

That's a neat trick considering they have different wheelbases, tracks, bed dimensions, interiors, exteriors, engines, frames and suspensions.

No, they are not related at all.

Question Well....

Maybe I'm just living in the past, but I like the old stuff. The mini-trucks Toyota used to make.
This new truck sounds like it has some great features and everything, but what I've always liked about the Toy trucks is the high quality, compact size, economical to drive, and how it had what you needed without a bunch of 'stuff' you didn't.
The '05 looks somewhat bloated to me.
Who knows...maybe it'll grow on me...?

I'll be first to say that the gated shifter is cool n all but I'll be one to say "eh".

I've already experienced a few issues with the small parts integrated into the shifter to make it a gated feel. But in all reality it's really not what you think it really is. Dang small springs and a rod causes some problems here and there. I think that toyota skimped out on this one piece for the gate shifter as I would have done some of the design differently.

Too bad the 4runner won't see the manual tranny....

Hmmmmmm, Toyota says the 4.0L V6 will do 18mpg city and 25mpg highway in the 4300lb 2WD Access Cab Tundra. Should be able to do the same or better in the lighter 4WD Tacoma, I would think. On the other hand, I don't think 4Runner owners with the 4.0L V6 are getting that kind of mileage, are they?

That is about right for mpg's. I think the Tacoma will get better with the 6 speed and lighter weight than the 4Runner.

It is amazing how urban legends perpetuate themselves on the internet. As others have stated, the Tacoma and Colorado/Canyon are NOT the same truck with different badges.

Another rumor going around is that the V6 in the 2005 Tacoma would have direct injection, and that is also false.

Just checked Toyotas specs on the 4Runner, and they list the 4.0L V6 mileage as 18/21 for 2WD and 17/21 for 4WD. Strange that the 4runner does 4mpg worse than the larger Tundra on highway mileage. Also surprised to see that the 4WD V6 4Runner and the 2WD AC Tundra both weigh around 4300 lb. I had assumed the Tundra was much heavier, but its not.

Whatever the sticker reads is going to be hard to get in real life. It'll be a bad comparison to ask what the 4th genners are getting. The tests they use to get these numbers are 30 years old and definitely do not match current standards.
At least that's what I heard on a popular LA AM news radio station (KNX1070). That being said - I do match or even better the freeway miles my sticker stated.
