It's confirmed that the new taco is riding on the Prado/4runner/Gx470 platform. I hope that means there will be more suspension products compatible with 4runner and tacos, ie. lifts, skids, gears, bumpers, etc.

Notice the glove compartment handles. It's offset to the driver side. My old expedition and f-150 had the same feature. The 4th gen 4runners don't. It's better to have it offset to the driver, so when you cruising on the freeway and need a straw from the glove compartment you don't have to reach to far.

You know, I just noticed the gated shifter. I LIKE the gated shifter. I never understood why more people don't use them. Gated shifter with 5sp auto....mmmm, yay.
So is anybody besides me ready to see the normal, everyday, painter, window glass carrier version of this thing?

It looks like the Tacoma/Colorado share similar styling, such as the fenders. The front suspension alone seems to be completely different though considering the new Tacoma has front coil suspension and the Colorado torsion bars.

I am pleased this is a design based on a Toyota platform, however, according to the article, you can buy a Chevy and get the same truck. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the trucks are built at a joint venture plant (between Toyota and GM) by the same people. (read: Same Truck)
I'm curious to see how this impacts sales. Are we as a whole so oblivious we spend more just because it says Toyota or do we realize we can save our hard earned dollars and buy a Chevy?

It states the Canyon/Colorado and Tacoma are "siblings".

Is this the statement your talking about? It says the Colorado/Canyons are siblings.

I dont care if an article says toyota and chevy are the same. I am gonna end up spending more money on the chevy because of reliability measures. I will never buy a chevy. I have no reason too. Toyota and Chevy will never be on the same playing field again.

No, they are not related at all.

Maybe I'm just living in the past, but I like the old stuff. The mini-trucks Toyota used to make.
This new truck sounds like it has some great features and everything, but what I've always liked about the Toy trucks is the high quality, compact size, economical to drive, and how it had what you needed without a bunch of 'stuff' you didn't.
The '05 looks somewhat bloated to me.
Who knows...maybe it'll grow on me...?

I've already experienced a few issues with the small parts integrated into the shifter to make it a gated feel. But in all reality it's really not what you think it really is. Dang small springs and a rod causes some problems here and there. I think that toyota skimped out on this one piece for the gate shifter as I would have done some of the design differently.
Too bad the 4runner won't see the manual tranny....

Hmmmmmm, Toyota says the 4.0L V6 will do 18mpg city and 25mpg highway in the 4300lb 2WD Access Cab Tundra. Should be able to do the same or better in the lighter 4WD Tacoma, I would think. On the other hand, I don't think 4Runner owners with the 4.0L V6 are getting that kind of mileage, are they?

Another rumor going around is that the V6 in the 2005 Tacoma would have direct injection, and that is also false.

Whatever the sticker reads is going to be hard to get in real life. It'll be a bad comparison to ask what the 4th genners are getting. The tests they use to get these numbers are 30 years old and definitely do not match current standards.
At least that's what I heard on a popular LA AM news radio station (KNX1070). That being said - I do match or even better the freeway miles my sticker stated.
