i know it's been posted about the pickuptruck.com, but it's also reviewed on edmunds.com.
anyway, it's a nice truck. it'll kill the competition. and....i want one.
in addition to the runner, of course.

Just kidding!!

Yeah, they do look a lot like them in some respects. Kind of like how the 4th gen. 4Runner looks a lot like many other SUVs while the 3rd gen still stands out. Nice job blending in again Toyota. IMO of course.

he was making a reference to the other thread where someone misread a sentence indicating that the colorado was siblings with another GM truck as saying that both were siblings of the tacoma.

You know this kind of thing happens with every redesign. When the current 00-04 Taco came out people HATED it for these reasons:
1. Grille too big and gaudy
2. Too rounded
3. massive plastic fenders
4. ugly front end design
5. body shapes too busy
Isn't it funny how 4-5 years later, it's the same complaints?
What were the overwhelming complaints of the 3rd gen 4R?
1. Dated interior not worth the price
2. Unrefined ride
3. small, cramped interior
4. generic, anonymous styling
5. underpowered/too much gas
I like the old designs too but you can't call Toyota "sellouts" for improving their products and meeting the market or even going ahead of the curve--meanwhile keeping prices just about the same. That's pretty incredible in my book.
Is it that you think it's ugly or is Toyota ahead of the curve on this? I've seen it in real life and it looks
1: Nothing like a cheapo Colorado/Canyon (why GM named it after a giant hole in the ground, I can't figure out)
2. Taco looks fantasticly tough and muscular and is sized right for the market.
I LOVE the current taco, don't get me wrong. I see a 03 DC everytime I walk outside b/c my good friend owns one. It is the perfect size for off-roading I think but nowadays people expect more for their $25K. That's not a criticism of the truck, that's just how the market is.
My favorite car is a 67.5 GTO. It has lap belts, bench seat and a steering wheel skinner than a pencil. Do I think it's awesome, yes. Do I think Pontiac should keep making it exactly like that? No. The market has changed. You need airbags, you need this, you need that, etc etc.
Ok, rant off.

I really don't remember the complaints about the current Tacos and 3rd gen 4Runners b/c I wasn't around any Toyota folks back then. And I didn't really pay any attention to them during the design changes either. I certainly agree with you that the current gen 4Runners and the new Taco are greatly improved mechanically over their predecessors. Just not cosmetically in my opinion. I was however impressed when the new 4Runners came out the the price didn't increase much. I really liked that b/c I had always thought that the 3rd gens were overpriced for what you got. But, it is a Toyota and that in itself makes it worth the investment.
I never called Toyota "sellouts". I just think that their newer designs don't stand out like they used to.
I don't necessarily think it's ugly it's just not of my taste. I clearly stated that it was my opinion only. No need to rant.
If Toyota took into consideration the opinions of the consumers here in the US there would be some diesel offerings in their vehicles.
Again this is just my opinion so no need to rant anymore and get your panties in a wad. It just looks like a big homonogous SUV conspiracy to me.
