2002 4Runner ?'s

Well I am a new 4 Runner owner, well actually it's my girlfriends ride! But I have some questions hopefully someone could help me with. 1st what does the ECT button do? When turned on a light appears on the dash ECT PWR, what does that mean? 2nd is there anyway to turn off or disconnect the traction control? 3rd I want to lift it but Im not sure what lift to buy! I was thinking of a 3" REVTEC , my Dad has one on his FJ! I want to run a 33" tire on a 20" rim also!

Do a search for ECT since that will get you alot more info since there's plenty of threads on that.

I don't recommend going over 2.5" due to CV angle stress. Also going with that big of rim over stock will increase braking distance with the already weak stock brakes so maybe a Tundra upgrade would help.

Do you plan on off-roading or is this for the street?

ECT (Electronic Control Transmission) basically lets your gears rpm higher before shifting. Some people claim to get better mileage, which doesn't make much sense to me since they are likely flooring it to rev it up as much as possible before shifting. But yeah, there should be a few threads on here about it for more info.

I use ECT when I'm towing. Do a search, you'll find tons of info on the switch.

Want to install a switch to disable TRAC, VSC and ABS, here you go:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f127...ystems-103814/. I've done the mod and love being able to turn it off and back on.

For lifts, do a search on that too. 1,000s of threads out there about this.

Oh and welcome to YT!

well it will spend most of the time on road, but will be taken off road sometimes! I would like to have at least a 3" lift.

For the lift I'd get a System 7.2, and a small body lift. It's a very capable lift and proven lift kit, that's not going to break the bank.

Vehicle Stability Control, basically an electronic system that's supposed to keep you moving in the direction that your trying to go. On my 01 I can feel it working if I really punch the gas on wet roads.

i stand corrected. how come i never hear the beeping when i have the center diff locked then? is that the VSC? what is the differece between the two, is the traction control the thing that brakes the wheel that is spinning? I dont usually feel the ABS going when i get loose around corners with the center diff locked.

sorry to hijack...

The VSC is the thing that beeps when you get sideways, it also cuts the power when the wheels start spinning. Traction control just pulses the brakes to the spinning wheel to give power to the wheel with traction. In my short experience with the 2002 4runner I've found that VSC is absolutely worthless and should have never made it to production. However, the traction control is awsome, with the center diff. locked I pulled into a parking spot that was packed with 3 feet of snow. You could actually see the trac working, snow was flying from all four wheels at different times as it was fighting to find traction. After I got in the spot I had to back out anyway, the snow was too deep to open the door!

ok well some lights came on the dash the other day, the check engine light, VSC OFF light, & VSC TRAC light! Why? They came on for no reason, & they sometimes go away but always come back on! I had my buddy who works at a parts store check into it for my, he said that it could be an O2 sensor, or the mass air flow sensor? Any ideas? Oh & I took the Runner out in the woods last night & it did very well!!!!!
