2001 4runner Throttle position sensor 89452-35030

Random hesitation between 1300 - 1500 with no codes. Sparks, coils, spark wires test out OK. Tested TPS and discovered some weird ~3K ohm spot mid range motion.

Ordered TPS from Rockauto.com and received 3-pin instead of the correct 4-pin. Oriellys Auto Parts had same problem. Tried to 2002 Tundra 4.7 V8 4-pin TPS without success.

Read a field fix; with engine turned off pump accelerator 100 times from 0 - 100%. Given the lack of 89452-35030 part suppliers I hope this wasn't some urban legend. So I did it

Results will follow.

I can`t see what that would do.except make your leg tired.

Curious to see if it works.

Why not order from the dealer??

Toyota dealers no longer sell 89452-35030 TPS.

Makes sense that if it was a dirty area on the resistor strip causing higher resistance running the conductor back and forth over it a bunch of times could clean it up. If the strip is corroded or extremely dirty probably won't help. Wouldn't the effort:effectiveness involved be more if you just pulled it apart and cleaned it with some electrical degreaser spray?

Red face

I find that hard to believe as I just bought some for the 98 and 2000 3.4engines.

Just what engine is it for??

This version of a TPS has no way to take it apart without breaking the casing. Though the idea had spark an investigation - simply can get spray into the heart of the part.

The 1998 to 2000 have a 3-pin throttle position sensor. It is the same engine.

Throttle position sensor 89452-22080 does NOT work in place of 8989452-35030.

Idle will increase to 1200RPM and throttle pedal is depressed 2/3 down to accelerate.

Upon returning the old TPS expect to see P1125 throttle control motor code pop up while the the RPMs run over 3000rpm and the computer shuts the engine off.

Had to take off the old one again and reinstall it to clear the code.
