2001 4Runner SR5 3.4L P1126 - Please Help!

Hey guys, so I just got this code today and it is a fairly hard one to knock out.

The technical name given is "Magnetic Clutch Circuit Malfunction"

I have been trying to do some research on it and have not been able to come up with anything. I first noticed the problem last night while driving around. It happened 4 times last night with no CEL. When accelerating at a constant speed, the RPMs would just dip for a split second and come back up.

Today when pulling into my apt complex, I got CEL, TRAC, and VSC lights all at once. Engine was idling perfectly, but had no response when I put my foot on the throttle. I restarted the engine, TRAC and VSC are off, but CEL is still on.

I printed off what needs to be done from Mitchell On-Demand, but its a pita i do not want to have to deal with unless I absolutely have to. There has been a couple other people who have had this problem and they changed out their throttle body to no avail. Being in college I really really do not want to throw parts at this thing and not have them solve my problem.

The 4Runner has 118,750 miles and has been running like a top previously to this happening. I am hoping someone has had this issue already and has successfully fixed this issue.

Jon says either a/c clutch has gone out or the wire is broke.

Its not the a/c it has to do with the throttle body. Ill scan and post what I printed off tomorrow

DTC P1126 Magnetic Clutch Circuit Malfunction CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Magnetic clutch is mounted between the throttle motor and the valve, and it connects the throttle motor with the throttle valve. Therefore, the throttle motor opens and closes the throttle valve through the magnetic clutch.
If the electric throttle control system has a malfunction, the magnetic clutch separates the throttle motor from the throttle valve in order not to operate the throttle valve by the throttle motor.
If this DTC is stored, the ECM shuts down the power for the throttle motor and the magnetic clutch, and the throttle valve is fully closed by the return spring.
However, the opening angle of the throttle valve can be controlled by the accelerator pedal through the throttle cable.

From another forum...something to consider:
"Our '01 Sequoia just had a problem last week where all the VSC, TRAC, ABS, etc. lights came on. Mechanic pulled a P1126 code for a magnetic clutch circuit. Turned out to be the throttle position sensor. We did not have any rough running but he said often times it will cause the engine to run terribly at which point you should stop driving it.
He reset the sensor and cleared the code and the lights did not come back."

This looks like the kind of answer I was looking for! Thank you for this valuable information. I'm going to test the TPS today to see if it may be at fault.

I've just read a dew different cases where changing the throttle body didn't do anything and I don't want to be stuck in that situation as well.

Any idea on how to "reset" the throttle position sensor? Im trying to get this taken care of today. Just drove an hour to my parents house and i had to restart the engine twice while coming down the intestate. Very frustrating to say the least.

Angry I did the deed and sorry I did

I had same problem. Toyota recommended I replace throttle body. I authorized it. $1,776. Then the same thing happened the next day (no acceleration). Turned out to be a short in the wire leading to the throttle body. Trying to get them to pay for the over-diagnosis now. I have a 2001 Toyota 4-runner with 214,000+ miles. He's my baby and I refuse to give him up!

I hope you kept the old one!!! Plenty of people will want to buy it as the IAC cannot be swapped on the '01-'02 and requires a new throttle body.

Toyota has the old one 😩
Has anyone out there with a p1126 error just fixed a short and had success (I.e., didn't need to replace throttle body?)

It's baaaaaaack

All three idiot lights are on again (Check engine and two VSC lights). Two throttle body replacements and electrical short repair didn't work. Back to the drawing board.
