I have been doing alot of serious research lately and attempting to read as many posts as possible about 3rd gen 4Runner lifts. I have narrowed it down to 2 possibilities

#2 93-97 LC coils and n86 shocks in rear
TRD Tundra coils OME shocks in front

what are the pros/cons of each of these lifts and do you have any other suggestions for a lift. I would ultimately like to gain about 3" of lift with the possibility of adding a body lift at some point.

On a side note, what are the ups/downs to using stock shocks versus aftermarker?

 

Make a prerunner out of it . i have still yet to see a 4runner pre runnered out. longtravel, wider fenders all that good stuff!

i went with the toytec route with my 97 2wd. specifically, i went with the 3" toytec spacers, and OME 890's and tokico trekmasters in the back. from that i got 3.25" in the front, and about 4" in the back but it was sagging before. i think if you also use 4wd springs in the front you'll get a lot more because of the spring rate. remember 2wd's are a lot lighter because no transfer case front diff... etc... i believe that a 4cyl 2wd is 500 lbs lighter than a v6 4wd. as for me, i didn't get extended brake lines or panhard bar or e-brake proportioning brakcet. though the latter two are highly recommended and i will do in the future. also, most important thing is alignment. visibly, i have some major camber, as well as a friend with the same front lift on a tacoma.

 

#1 is great for the price.
#2 might give you a slight bit more in the rear

I aswell got the 3'' toytec spacers for the front. Did not need to extend the brake lines. And the rear i went with 3 1/2 in coils from downey-offroad. they give you an extended brake line with that kit. and straps. once again, i didnt need to install the extended braked line nor the straps, cause im still using the stock shocks. the shocks wont let it over extend.

Edit: i didnt get the extended panhard either. took some measurments and its not off.

 

There's plenty of people out there that did similar lifts with none of those extra modifications.

 

toytec makes a quality product...what do u plan to do offroad with the truck

 

Well since I have a 2wd most of what I want the lift for is looks. I might take it out on some really easy trails but nothing too extreme. I am staying away from spacers because I'm afraid it will make the ride a little rough. Is that a correct assumption?

 

I test drove an FJ crusier with 2 inch spacers, didnt feel rough at all. You can probably get some spacers for the front and 890's for the rear for around $250.

 

spacers didn't make my ride any more rougher. it helped stop swaying through turns though center of gravity was raised. but you can't expect a luxury sedan type ride from a lifted truck basically.
