2000 4Runner limited no reverse gear + P0755
2000 4 runner limited lose reverse gear and would not shift into 3rd. CEL on code P0755 says shift solenoid B... related or 2 separate issues? It has ~195 000 mi on it. Advice please. Thanks!

I believe they are related...p07xx are transmission related codes.
Try doing the maintenance stuff first to see if code and the symptoms are caused by dirty fluid gunking up the solenoid. Dex/merc ATF I believe is the type.
If nothing changes its probably electrical connections or the solenoid is fried somewhere. Good luck!

Dirty ATF will cause a variety of symptoms including what you describe, so I'd start there first before replacing what could be a still functioning solenoid. And if your auto trans has a removable filter, definitely change that out as well.
Unless you're able to test the solenoid's voltage, resistance, and somewhere in the circuitry you get readings out of range, then yeah, its gone bad. A quick way to tell is jumping it to the pos side of the batt with some testing probes (grounded of course) and listening for a click inside the solenoid. Quick, but not definitive. A multimeter would be more precise.
But a poor ground can mess around and make it appear the solenoid is bad when its just loose, dirty, or corroded.
Seems like you changed the fluid already and still having symptoms huh..
I had a P07xx on a different make if I recall and although a different solenoid involved, it ended up just being dirty ATF. A couple years ago and I'm glad I hadn't taken the bait and replaced what is still a fine solenoid that runs for a couple hundred bucks.

75W90MantraN, you are correct that the ATF has been changed recently. Here is the background: We were actually en troute down to Tampa area in May when the solenoid E failed 2hrs from Tampa, so had it towed to the machinist — was told ~$4000 for a rebuilt tranny. Since has always been a great Car for the family and only with 195,000 mi on her and knew that I could likely able to change out the solenoid myself, I ended up getting her shipped back to PA. Once I dropped the pan I figured I might as well getting all 3 instead of just solenoid E replaced. The filter was replaced as well. She ran smoothly until a few weeks ago when she lost the reverse + the P0755 code. I will get the solenoid 2 replace as soon as the weather permits (we are expecting a rain out weekend at NE). Thanks for the suggestion and tips. Will report back after. Have done simpler things like suspension up grade and water pumps .. etc. I have been very fortunate to not have to worked with transmission nor with an engine. Like said before she has been a wonderfully reliable car for the last 18+ years. My other driver is 2006 Tundra. I am learning my way through all this. Again very much appreciative of your help!

Has the ATF been changed at close to recommended intervals or was that the rare occasion? Its cheap now to do a second fluid drain if its been neglected.
Then erase the code and start over and see of it returns.
Best of luck!

75w90mantraN. The ATF was last changed in late Nov of last year. I pulled all three out for a quick click test with a car battery to find that the lock up solenoid is bad and #2 clicked only intermittently. Iwould have like to replace with the original Aisin solenoids but failed to find the exact replacements from 3-4 of Toyota dealerships over the internet or in the local area. I did pick up at set of 3 ( 2 x 58420-21100 for both solenoid 1and 2) + lockup 35250-50300 for a total of little over $500 from a local dealership just to find out that the lockup fit but not the 1 and 2. Apparently there is not way to secure them with the single tab on each of the solenoid. The original Aisin solenoids are in pic 1 and the ill fitting replacement are in pic 2. Any out of desperation I decided to keep the lockup and replace the #1 & #2 with the AUTEX solenoids set ( all 3 for $80). After installation, I am very happy to report that she has regained the reverse gear and appeared to drive relatively well from gear 1 to 2. I have not had the chance to take her out on the highway as yet as she need to be inspected. I wii certainly do that as soon as I am able to get her in for the inspection after the holiday. Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions and the support.
