2.7ltr Exhaust Donuts

My 98 Taco 2.7ltr 4X4 5spd seems to want to eat the exhaust donut in front of the catilyitc converter. Would it be reasonable to think the cat is plugged? It has about 140K on it and gets around 18MPG with 31" BFG AT/TAs. I get no CE lights.

It does seem pretty gutless compared to my 3.4...

TIA

If all seems to fail why dont u just weld the downpipe from the stock headers to the cat. Thats now the 4runners with the 2.7 are.

Maybe I should, I plan on putting it up for sale anyways as I can't have more then two trucks per wifes orders. I am eyeing a 2000 V6 5spd Taco that has been for sale for about 6mths. Not sure why it hasn't sold except maybe price. May have to go make a low ball offer and see if I can steal another one.

If its a v6 by all means go for it. But if you do plan on doing the weld i suggest getting some lc headers just so you get the best benefit out of the 4 banger.

I have thought about keeping the 2.7 truck and moding it, it's paid for as is my TRD w/auto. I just think that I want to find a 3.4 5spd to start with. All my wheeling trucks have been std's, can't see myself wheeling with a auto...

check all of the exhaust hangers and motor mounts for excessive movement, that could cause it to work loose

Thanks, I didn't notice much movement when I put in the last donut... I just have a feeling that I have a bit to much pressure on the motor side of the cat...
