1UZ in a first gen?? is it possible to do

I was thinking of doing this swap if its possible, i know ive seen it in a 2nd gen, but not a 1st. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing. Im thinking of mating the 1uz to the stock 5 speed manual in my 88 4runner 22re-- is this a good idea? Anyone have any suggestions about this project i want to undertake..

Check over at Lextreme.com. They've got a good forum on swapping the UZ series.

No experience with it, but I'd love to attempt it when my 3.0 gives up the ghost. Here's a site full of great reading: Lexus V8 Swaps

EDIT: Ya beat me Troudt!!

yep went through the lextreme site, but its all about strange cars that dont exist over here, not to mention the steering wheel on wrong side. I wouldnt know how a holden compares size wize with a 88runner but i will try it as soon as my 4runner is fixed ( friend borrowed it and ran into a telephone pole )

Both of the guys (Deon aka V8Surfer and V8 Hilux) that did the swaps post on that board so they would be a great help. The main site also has lots of specs and diagrams. Good luck in the swap.

Fitting in the engine bay is definitely something you'll need to figure out.

There has got to be some dimensional info on there about the size of the engine. The Hilux engine bay on that site (3rd Gen truck/2nd Gen Runner size) is a little larger than the 1st Gen Runner, but both were avalable with the 3.0, so it shouldn't be that much different.

More importantly, I know that there is info on there about bellhousings, electronics, etc. to make it go vroom. That is the hard part anyway.

Ill just probably hack the bay apart to fit the engine, and then use all the lexus electronics so that i can get it smogged here in CA. ( referreed and stuff like that )
