Tires: 31x10.5. Fairly small tires relatively speaking. I keep 'em small for now since its my daily commuter.

I went with the artificial rain gutter in the back. Had to drill 2 holes on either side all the way through. Seems to work just fine Looks like todd has his completely on the raingutter. I don't know which way is better... I installed mine 6 years ago.

Here is somewhat of a better angle of the basket. Be careful though, with my Hilift and shovel on the rack, I have less than an inch exiting my garage :pat:

I am also interested in the rack. From the looks of it, it's mounted to the roof rails (what ever y ou call them).

But i'm more interested in the front and rear bumpers you have. My front is bent out of shape due to a deer. Rear also need to be replaced. I just priced one out at yota yard here in town, but if i can get what you have that would be awesome!

In addition i like the height of your rear end. What setup do you have and who did the work? Looks like your from CO also.

Please fill me in...

Your car looks badd ass as well as all the 1st gens.

Keep up the good work.

The front yak towers are mounted on the raingutter that is part of the truck. The rear ones are mounted on an "artificial" raingutter which I had to install - Yak sells them.

www.badlandbumpers.com is where I got my bumpers. I love them!! I paid $1077 shipped for front and rear bumpers. I like the ARB front bumper, but it would of been $1200 for a front ARB and a rear badland bumper. I just got the rock sliders from badlands too, just need to get them installed. Email Jeff at badland (get email addy on his site) and tell 'em Rob sent ya He is extremely helpful and will answer any question you might have. I had my bumpers shipped to Hich Country 4x4 to save on shipping... I think shipping was just over $100 or something. My original bumpers too were all bent up so it was nice tossing those in the dumpster!!

I have just standard bilstein shocks and I think 2" shackles in the rear to get rid of the sag. Thats it!! No other mods. Although, I contacted Off-Road Solutions and I'm lookin to put some new leafs in the back. Mine are completely flat right now.

Hope that helps

Hi all,

I have an 87 4-runner with 145,000 miles that I bought from the original (female) owner almost 2 years ago. The thing was 100% bone stock when I got it. Since then I have added a add-a-leaf (for the sag), Rancho RS5000 shocks, Warn hubs, rear seat belts, K&N, I cranked up the torsion rods a little, that’s about it. Aside from a few parking lot dings and scratches, its in really great shape. The interior is perfect, not even a stain or rip on the seats. I got pretty lucky when I found it, so far its been a good rig.

Whats up everyone?

I used to own a charcoal grey '87 SR5, we bought it new, it was then given to me when I turned 16. I beat the crap out of that thing, never changed the oil, never rotated the tires, nothing. Then one day it blew up. I sold it, not running with major body damage, heater, A/C, windows, none of that worked for $1500.

Years later, realizing I was a complete spoiled idiot, I searched for another charcoal grey '87-89. Found one, but it wasn't an SR5. Man, what a difference. No power windows, no center console heater, no nice sport seats, no power locks (easily solved with DEI 524N's), no tach or voltmeter, and most of all, I don't have the cool thing on the dash that shows how level the truck is.

I plan on doing some serious work to this thing so you guys are going to be seeing a lot more of me. Also, I'm an Installer at Tweeter so if you guys have any Mobile Audio questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I've got a 1st gen Runner (1989). I used to take it off roading in Hollister until I went into the mud pit. At the time the truck was bone stock with 30 inch tires. I blew the engine. Well, since then, I had an engine conversion done to the Chevy 4.3l v6 with a 700r4 automatic transmission. Also had a 4 inch suspension lift and 3 inch body lift done to it and am currently looking for some 33" tires and wheels. Can't wait to start driving it around again with the top off. That removable top makes all the difference for me.

1st gen

hi guys 1st gen really is the mutts over the moon with mine but over here (u.k) the dealers do not like imports and the specialists do not list much for the first gen obviously rock crawler suspension is not really required over here particualy in the fens where i live. Have got 3" bodylift 35x12.50x15 bfg and as far as i can see all that has been done on the ifs is the torsion bars have been wound up i am not happy with this as the driveshafts sit at a very sharp angle (though it drives o.k) things are going to wear pretty quick i intend fitting es 9000 all round what are your opinions on the front considering a limited budget many thanks

The part of this thread apppeared to be a WA reunion tour, so I had to post...between silverdale and allyn lies beautiful?? Belfair, WA, that is my point of conception way back. Parents still live there. Sorry I don't have a first gen runner to post, do have an 87 4WD Reg-cab though. Later.

I wouldn't be too jealous... your truck is a classic (in my opinion at least). My brother had a blue '81 longbed w/ a 7" suspension lift... National springs, etc. That thing looked hard! It was stolen , outran all of the Oceanside police radio, helicopter and patrol cars... not even re-geared, on 33's and the stock 22r that came w/ it. They found it the next day with the system pulled out, but the truck was fine. My brother was way pissed but he eventually got 90% of it back and was pretty proud that the truck outran THE COPS!.

Keep it.

can i be in the thread too? i have a 1st gen, though it's not a 4runner

i love the 1st gen trucks. best looking, and most utilitarian. plus, if something breaks, i can fix it with a wrench and wd40, instead of all those computer diagnostic tools
