I didn't like door mounted ones because every time I shut the door they spilled. I attached a pair of cupholders to each side of the console, right in front of the seats. Out of the way, within reach.

Thought I'd add some pics of mine. The el-cheapo kind that would attach to the window slit, but with the tops cut off, and riveted into the door panels. Just hafta be careful closing the door with anything in them, especially hot coffee.
These have been in the truck since 1985 so they've held up pretty well. Sure didn't cost much either!

Ya, I think attaching something to the door may be my best way to go. The "mugger" would be nice as they do fold away when closed although yours would probably withstand a bit more abuse. I tried looking for the "wedgie" at walmart but had no luck... Any other pics would be great!
