Hey All, I had my timing belt replaced last week for what I believe to be the first time (got it used from second or third owner and they weren't sure) at about 125000 miles. I've also been commuting back and forth from Asheville to Clemson once or twice a week for the past few weeks. The engine has begun to make a strange noise almost like chirping or squeaking. When i'm in gear but not giving any gas and the rpms are up around 2000 or 3000 it becomes pretty pronounced but when the rpms fall it quiets down, and when i'm on the throttle the noise of the engine overpowers it. This started before my timing belt change but has definitely gotten worse since then. Has this happened to anyone here before? Any ideas what it could be?

 

BE SURE THEY CRANK BOLT IS TORQUED PROPERLY !!!!!!!!!!
this holds the harmonic balancer on and can cause some pretty gruesome damage and be quite costly!!!

throw a wrench on it and see if you can tighten it and if you can I would tighten it up as tight as you can and take it to the shop and ream them for not doing the job right in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

other than that loose belts or they need replaced

 

and the nec. specs: 217 ft-lbs.!
there was a recall/specification of the originally printed 186? ft-lbs.
that 31 ft-lb difference is HUGE- it has resulted in a few horror stories around here.

when i did it, i rented a torque wrench that went up to 250 ft-lbs, and had to use a 4 foot pipe slipped over the wrench to get enough torque on the bolt. i probably got it to around 220-225 ft-lbs, but i didn't want that thing EVER coming off.... until the next t-belt change...
