1997 4runner
#41
I just plugged your 97 limited w/ 80k miles into into kbb and came up wiht $12k private party value...
There are lots of little differences between a 97 and a 99. I think they are well worth the $$. Plus the taxes cancel out...the locker is a $1k. So thats $13K plus delivery. A TON of 4Runners on ebay are in texas. Thats a short plane ride from New Orleans. Still, figure $200 max for a plane ticket and $200 for gas/hotel. And you're at $13,500 and you have a nice 1999 4Runner. If you want one with lower miles, add another $1k.
If you can wait for the right one to pop up, those extra goodies in the '99s are worth it. And you may get lucky...it may have a locker.

Hey, did you plug the 1997 into my zip code(80210)? When I do, using 79,500 miles the private party price comes up to be $14,295. I also drove a 1999 and it seemed slower than the 1998's and below. I am not really sure of what a 99 has that a 97 doesnt either. I guess what it all comes down to is me having spent well over a year looking for a 4runner, and I finally have a chance to do so, i get impatient. I guess I kind of worry about ebay too, becuase I really wouldnt get a chance to see/drive it in person to make sure i like it. I dunno... I am really confused as normal, and I can't wait for it all to be over so I can get on some dam trails. Thanks a bunch for your thoughts though, i really appretiate it. I also need to stop coming on yotatech because I have homework to do, which sucks even more.

I agree with PoBoy, getting '99 will be probably better. The most noticeable changes from '97 are:
- new bumpers
- additional power outlet in rear cargo area, and 2 more outlets inside
- auto-off headlights
- power windows with one-touch auto-up/down functions
- LCD odometer with digital dual trip meters
- larger side mirrors, heated
- sunglasses holder
- new cupholders (!!!!)
- plus several more...
Hope this helps,

hehe...thats understandable. I dont consider any vehicle in "excellent" condition unless it has 0 miles on the OD...so that is probably our difference. If you took it to an appraiser he would say "Clean" at most. But hey, pay a little more for reliability and confort in your purchase. If I had the money, Id probably go for it too...Im just short about $5k, so Ive gotta find a bargin in the first place...Good luck man
Hey Andrey, so if I move there next month...I get my drivers license...it'll be pennies to get an out of state vehicle titled and registered? Well there is more incentive to move there. Anyone in AZ wanna hook a software programmer / computer techi up with a job down there? Im actually serious too!

hahaha yea I guess I rate her care as excellent because thats how I do mine. About the other options that come with a 99.... the bumpers dont matter to me because there coming off anyways for steel ones. All the other things sound nice, but the car is already really luxiourious for me anyways, and since I plan on using it for quite a bit of off-roading.... those options arent that big of a deal. Thanks for both of ya'lls help though!

My thoughts
- new bumpers I prefer the 96-98 bumpers way more than the 99+ 4Runners with the "chin"
- additional power outlet in rear cargo area, and 2 more outlets insideI added extra power outlets myself, total cost $2.50
- auto-off headlights Mine has a buzzer, I had the auto off headlights on my old Camry and never used them
- power windows with one-touch auto-up/down functions I only really use the one touch for the drivers side window. My mom's 02 Lexus ES300 has the one touch for all the windows, and its hard to get it to roll down half way
- LCD odometer with digital dual trip meters True. those are cool
- larger side mirrors, heated They aren't that much larger, I consider the mirrors on my 97 to be big enough
- sunglasses holder I don't like those because they scratch up the lenses
- new cupholders (!!!!)Ahh good point. If you are crazy like me and a few other members on the board, you can get a 99+ console and install it
- plus several more...
The only thing I want from a 99+ are the headlights.

I'll tell ya... this is the most complicated transaction for me. I called the lady back and she said she just sold her other car, so now she only has the 4runner. She is going to call me back on thursday and tell me if she is still going to sell it to me. Luckly she said she wont sell it to anyone else in the meantime. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

same here.
only i went the way of the dealer namely because my family had bought 3 cars from them, so i was gonna get a good deal regardless.
i ended up with my 01 with 47k miles and an extended warranty (it is in AMAZING shape) for just under 22500. i gave them 500 bucks to keep it on the lot for me while i dealt with work credit union crap, and ended up with a really low finance rate and a doable monthly.
patience is the real key. if i wasnt patient i wouldve taken a 98 with 65k for around 19000 and been really mad at myself

After that lady pulling that crap on you, i'd look else where for a vehicle. That's just not good business, what she's doing... and as other people say, I think she's asking about 2k too much.
