I really don't know what you are getting at here though? You asking for opinons on these two vehicles?

Toyota truck = Reliable 22re motor, IFS, Has a real frame, Lots of aftermarket availalble for it.
cons= way more $ to fix than a domestic


Cherokee = SFA weak Dana 30 front axle 33" tire max u-joints and shafts start snapping. If your lucky you'll get one with a dana 44 rear. Most have dana 35's again limited to a 33" tire things start to break beyond that. You'll need at least 4.5" of lift to even clear 33's on a cherokee and clearencing is required because they still rub.
Most were geared at 3.07 or 3.73. 4.11's was a option with larger tires. 4.88's is the max gear ratio you can go with on dana 30 and 35 axles.
I-6 Chrysler motor torqey but way less reliable than the toyota.
Unibody constuction things tend to rust out easy on rockers.
Loads of aftermarket bolt on crap.
I personally don't like them no matter how much smack my Jeep friends say about them. I still think Jeeps are Cheep heaps.

Pro: The little parts are usually cheap though. You can find one for cheap anywhere you go.

don't insult the jeep 4.0 by calling it a chrysler. that engine is the last relic of AMC, and it's damned reliable. and you can make a cheap stroker by using a 258 crankshaft in it.

everything else aside, i'd take the toyota. the toy's IFS is stronger than the pathetic dana 30 front axle.

i had a fairly built 94 cherokee and yes the 4.o is torquey and yes there is a stroker, but the kit alone is around 2k and you can't forget that some cherokees had a chrysler 8 1/4 rear axle

 

What's this guy's deal with a 22r supercharged? I'd like to see it.

 

THere were a couple of superchargers for the 22R/22RE. On the RE you had to lose the EFI and go carb though. That's why I never went S/C back in the day - I will never own another carbed engine. is that so? how come? i always thought that it was just integrated with the EFI...care to fill me in?

 

i had a 91 cherokee with the 4.0L loved the engine, axles were weat yes and w had 7 inches of lift and were still only running 33's(didnt trim fenders), did the con 5 times, swamp lake, duesy ersham, and more all in it and it kicked arrsee, slap some dana 44's and 4.56 gears in there like we did and it is all good. i realy like the 4.0L realy reliable no problems the hole time we had it, and super torquey, much better than the 3.slow, but ill have to say yotas are better and rock!
