1985 Frame 4x2 IFS

i know the rear axle of the 86+ IFS trucks were wider than the axles on the 79-85 due to the front being IFS....

anyways, there are several kits on the market to help convert the 86+ IFS equipped trucks to an SAS

however my truck is a 1985 4x2 IFS.... would i be able to use one of the premade IFS kits in doing a 4x2 to 4x4 with SAS conversion? or is the frame between the 1985 4x2 IFS and the 1986 4x4 IFS frame too different?

its possible to do an SAS on your truck, Ive seen it before, the frames are pretty similar to an 4x4 ifs frame

2x4 frames are closer to a straight axle 4x4 frame than an IFS 4x4 frame. they have more arch in the front, so you don't need as much lift to run crossover steering.

FROR is a good place to go for things. i'd stay away from allpro after all the bad press they've been getting lately -- i think marlin or sky's has a better deal on steering/suspension components

well not exactly bad press as much as chris geiger(now works at marlin, formerly of allpro) exposed a lot of their shoddy practices. i wouldn't buy allpro's arms as they are cast, while marlin's and sky's are billet steel. the cast ones tend to crack right between the cone washer seats. if you crack an allpro steering arm marlin will trade you for a set of their billet ones
