So I don't try to assume any laws in his state.....let me just say this....(from someone who's actually took a 30+ day "test drive" (5 weeks actually) in a vehicle before buying another vehicle from that particular dealer.)

If he hasn't made the first payment yet he's in a way better position legally to return the vehicle and pay nothing but a mileage penalty.

I'd take the cash. Maybe counter at 700 instead but take the cash. The bils that they put on are not as stout as regular bils, get the better ones. With some smart shopping you can have the wheels as well fairly cheap if you look here and on other sites. Yeah it sucks but at least this dealer is willing to work with you on this. He deserves a little credit. You can build the truck up better than stock as has been said.

I held out a little longer and they finally just said that they'd send a check for $1000. I told them that I appreciated their professional handling of the matter.
I think its fair, and I am gladed it worked out this way.
