04 taco vibration

My 04 double cab taco will vibrate (I can feel/see it in the steering wheel and feel it in the seat) when I’m on a smooth road coasting between 30mph to 40mph (foot off the gas). Sometimes there’s a minor shake under other circumstances but no major vibration at freeway speeds. I’m fairly sure the wheels are balanced as the vibration is not worse at freeway speeds. Possible causes: driveshaft runout, bad u-joint, bad motor mounts, warped rotor/drum, tire/rim out of round, rack & pinion issues, stealership gremlins…anyone know how to do an exorcism?

Might wanna check the torque on the lugs (about 85 ft/lbs) and maybe grease the drive shaft along with the U-joints.

One thing you might check is the carrier bearing on the rear driveshaft. One of the local incompetent dealers (Mark Miller Toyota SLC, UT.) couldn't figure it out.

I went to a driveline shop, and they diagnosed it immediately. This was on a '93 Extra-cab 4x4.

You might also have a wheel that lost a wheel weight, too.

My worthless .02 cents..

I was just at Mark Miller last night. They said "It feels normal" and "The TRD makes this a hard riding truck". I havent driven other Dcab Tacos so I dont have anything to make a comparison...yet. Something doesnt smell right though...

Greased driveshaft zerks last month. I'll break out the torque wrench this weekend and look at the wheels for missing weights.
