Beowulf, i agree. you can get a 4 or 6 cyl SC for under 2,000 now... for tacos anyways. i think 4runners too. i saw a post on TTORA about that, and i think i saw one here too.

 

Just got off the phone with my local TRD/Toyota dealer. They anticipate installing quite a few kits, so quoted a "volume discount" price of $3,800 if they install it for a flat $400. I think it's worth it to keep the 60 month/60,000 mile drivetrain warranty and 84 month/70,000 mile emission warranty intact. I can't imagine a reliable aftermarket alternative coming in for less, let alone the warranty issues that could develop.

Are you talking about a '03 4Runner? They have the 4.7 V8, right? Dealer over here already has the S/C for sale. It's sitting on the shelf right out in the parts department. Maybe it's for the Tundra or Sequoia. Does the Tundra/Sequoia have a different S/C available then the '03 Runner?

Yeah, TRD said the 4Runner V-8, although related to the 2UZ in L/C and Sequoia, has a few different components that require a separate kit.

TRD has the dyno graphs, but not online yet. As soon as they do, I'll post a link or scan and post myself.

 

The 03 4Runner is available with the 4.7L V8 we are quite familiar with in the Tundra V8/Sequoia/Land Cruiser/Lexus LX470. TRD's supercharger for this engine is already out, although I don't know the specs or price on it. Toyota's all new all-alluminum V6 engine, also available on the 4Runner (not until Nov., I think) is the one I think BT17R is talking about. Due to the fact the engine is so new, I think this is the S/C TRD is working on. With those specs, on a V6, WOW, that is going to be one fast ass truck. I think all I said is right, anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

 

Well, I was writing about the 2UZ V-8 S/C modified for the '03 4Runner application. I think the difference (from conversation with TRD this morning) from the L/C, Sequoia, and Tundra apps has to do with packaging and OBD III emissions tuning of the ECU for regs debuting in '04. They don't have anything in the works for the V-6 yet.

 

BT17R--That's really interesting. I didn't know the 4Runner's 4.7 S/C was different then the S/C for the rest of the 4.7s. I would have thought that Toyota would have thought ahead and designed the engine to use the existing S/C. Save some development costs and customers could order them earlier. I dunno, interesting though. Learn something every day here.

If they are going with a modified Eaton, I wonder what size.

I can't wait to see a review. I wonder how the IRS (independent rear suspension, not Uncle Sam) will react to 100 extra horse and ft/lbs.

I thought someone said the 4Runner uses a 4.3L V8, not 4.7L as in Tundra/Sequoia/Land Cruiser, I must be wrong. Still doesn't explain why it's such a lower hp rating than the Sequoia V8, I mean it weighs less, I just guess you buy it for the torque.

Is that true? I didn't know it was IRS either. What were they smoking when they said hey let's take our best off-road SUV and turn it into a wuss/Explorer? It's over, there is no hope for it now ...
