Hello all,

This is my first post. I found this site about a week ago. I purchased my 03 about 3 weeks ago and I love it. I got the Sport V8 with the 6 disk changer. Anyway I have a fair amount of my CD's burned on CDR. My old 00 Firebird would play them fine. However when I pop them into the 4 Runner. They start to break up around track 5 or 6. I am wondering if it is the media I am using. Are any of you guys playing CDR's in the 03's with good output?

PS I know it is not the CD player because it plays my real CD's fine.

Almost half the CD's I own are CD-R's, so far I haven't had so much as a skip from any of them. Most of the disks I'm using are Memorex 80 minute, what kind have you tried?

I have been using these Imation disks. I have a few Memorex left I will try it. What does the "painted" part of the disk look like? Mine are white with blue writing. Also what programs are you guys using to burn them.

Yep, those are the ones I have, white with blue lettering. Be careful using those ones though. There's a gold foil that goes around the outer lip of the disk that has a tendency to peel off. If it gets on the recorded side of the disk it will skip...it could also come off in the player which would obviously not be a good thing. I'd put a label over them before using them in a player to keep that from happening.
I've used both Roxio and Adaptec to create CD's.

I use TDK disks, my burner has issues with memorex. I use to have an old HP burner and used Easy CD Creator and would get a skip in the middle of the disk, but the rest of it would be fine. Now using a Lite-On burner with Clone CD, Nero, and Alcohol 120. Burns perfect every time. Stock single disk player runs them fine.

this could be a number of things - but the cd player is likely the culprit. Dad has a Dodge 3500 with the Infinity system with the "piece" cd player. It steadfastly refuses to play any burned cd's where as all 4 of my aftermarket cd player's (and mom's aftermarket cd player had NO problem.)

I have noticed that most POS-eeeer I mean stock () cd players in other people's cars are REALLY finiky about burned cd's. Get an aftermarket CD player and you will have much better soundquality, better radio reception, better longevity, more power, more features, and better cosmetics than the OEM unit. You can't possibly go wrong with aftermarket name brand stuff if installed properly.

A GOOD cd player/tuner/xm ready/mp3 player with built in xovers should run about 500-700bux if you pay retail. 250-350 if you have connections.

If you dont want to go that route, try swapping your disks, however, I have had no problems with the disks you describe in my aftermarket Alpines, Eclipse, and Nakamichi head units....

FWIW, I've seen instances where the speed at which you burn them can cause problems. For audio CD's, I never burn faster than 4X to ensure the hardware doesn't overrun the buffers.

Agreed. I usually opt for the slowest possible speed. If you listen closely there IS a difference sonically between burn speeds.
