02 taillight swap-wiring harness upgrade?
Just got my 02 headlights 2 weeks ago 65 bucks for both, found a pair of taillights from an 01 for $50 for the pair. I plan on picking them up after the new year but wanted to know the importance of upgrading harnesses. Saw an old marketplace ad for a pair for 30 bucks...first, is it necessary? If not, is it worth the money to upgrade harnesses? How hard is it to swap the old harness for the new? Thanks and merry Christmas!

Techically it is plug and play, but I guess there's another factor. I know that the upgraded wiring will provide better output, but I'd be more worried about that with headlights. This is what made me start thinking

I think the only reason you would need new wiring harnesses is if you decided to get some non-OEM tail lights (TYC Altezzas, etc.), but if you're sticking with 01-02 OEM tails, you should be alright?

i installed a set of 01-02 tails all i had to do is trim the turn signal socket it a little you will see what i mean when u get in there and i had some 194 bulb holders that fit fine all i had to do was splice those 2 wires for each side and thats it no need for the harness

The new ('01-02) harness is plug and play. At least it was for my '96
I don't think the new harness provides additional output. If it does, it certainly isn't noticeable. I'd stick with your old harnesses and do what elton and a few others did.
is it worth the money to upgrade harnesses?
I know that the upgraded wiring will provide better output

yeah another members sort of enlightened me since i made this thread, the only reason i held that assumption at all was because of roger brown's write up on upgrading harnesses for headlight output. i wish someone had some pictures just to help me get a better idea. from what i've gathered so far though as long as i swap out the harnesses from the 01 to mine and reset the ground i'm good to go, just want further confirmation
