Sorry if this is a dup thread, but I did a search on foglight replacement and couldn't find anything really related. Anyway, could somebody (I'm sure there are many of you who can) please let me know the procedure for replacing just the bulbs in the stock foglights on a 3rd gen? I got new bulbs for my foglights on my '02 SE and was trying to figure out how to replace the existing ones. I unclipped the wiring harness but then it seemed like I had to actually open the foglight casing itself. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

If you still have your owner's manual it should have instuctions... It is pretty simple. Basically you unscrew three screws, pull back a small catch, pull the plug on the old one, and pop the new one in.

If you have found the clip on the inside of the housing- then you need to undo it to get to your old light. It is what holds it in place.

Here's a follow-up. I attempted to remove the 3 screws mentioned in Strider's post (and the user's manual), but the metal in the screws was so soft and/or corroded that the phillips slots got stripped completely out with 3 turns of a screw driver. Soooo. . .how do I remove these screws now? And has anyone else run into this annoying, annoying problem? As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you need to remove the assembly and either drill out the existing stipped ones. Ooooor you could got to Home Depot or Sears and get a bit to remove stripped screws.

 

So they make those, huh? This is an utter long shot, but does anyone know what size screw that is so that I can just get replacements while I'm there. . .? Like I said, I know that it's a long shot but I figured it's worth a try.

Hell man, just take the assembly out before you go up there and then just remove the screw out in the parking after you buy the bit. Then go back inside and match it up.

I tried Home Depot when mine stripped out...they didn't have that size. I ended up going to a real hardware store (ACE) to find some...

 

Cool. Thanks for the info. I honestly had a feeling that the Depot wouldn't have that size screw. I was actually able to get one of the 3 out without totally stripping it so I should be able to use that at a hardware store. Thanks a lot for your help guys.

if youre gonna use home depot for anything car-related, you have to walk in knowing EXACTLY what you want.

 

OK, I did this but I didnt have the stripping of the screws problem...my only problem was figuring out how I can hook up my new bulb to the existing connection...its screwed in and the hole in the new bulb isnt big enough for the screw to go through so I'm not sure how to plug it in.

I got PIAA Star White H3's with a wire and a female flat plug on it and I have no idea where to plug it in, theres no way for the screw to fit through it and not only that...the screw on the inside is so soft I just about stripped it out...this is rediculous, I'm about to have my dealer just do it for me...or just get a new set of fog lights with new screws and stuff so they won't strip.

ah...stripped screw. I did this as well. Just remember to use the broad tipped screw drivers those work much better. I got so pissed that i broke off one of the screws and just sealed the hole with a sealent...luckly no leaks. Remember not to overtighten it when you put it back together otherwise you wont have a proper seal.

 

hmmm sounds like those factory foggs are abit of a pain....and i was thinking about getting them....now maybe not

 

My biggest concern is that the bulbs I bought from PIAA won't fit, the actual bulb will fit fine but I'm not sure how the connector attached to it is supposed to hook up to it.

The screw is going through the plug on the stock bulb but the plug on the PIAA bulb is so small I'm not sure how its going to work...anybody have the H3 Star White foglight bulbs in there rigs?

If it's H3 it will work. I've used Focuz, PIAA, Hella, etc... I've never heard of an H3 bulb/connector being too big ? If the flat(male) end of the connector is too big then pry open the female connector with a flathead to make it fit??? I'm not sure I'm talking about the right thing.

 

When you remove the old one you should see where the flat headed terminal connects since you have to remove the stock one the same way you install the new one.

Yeah I got it...turned out it was an optical illusion with the reflection off of the male connector. I got em in and I love em! Thanks for checkin David!!

PS: I highly recommend the PIAA bulbs, they are awesome!
