Thanks, I put it to work last night and hauled about 4500#'s on it, about 160 miles. It pulled great. Even behind my poor little Taco, lol

The story goes that I found a Craigslist add for an 86 4runner being parted out so I thought I would try and grab some stuff off of it. I called him asking for the tail gate ect and he kept trying to make me a deal on the whole thing. Apparently he doesn't know much about fixing cars and thought the motor in his 4runner was junk so he bought this parts truck off a farm because it ran good. He planned to pay a mechanic to swap the motors but the mechanic told him his was salavageable so they fixed it instead. He claims he paid $1200 for it and drove it to the mechanic's shop. I towing it away from the shop last night for cheap. They did steal the fuse / relay block from under the hood and the air box but otherwise it is complete. Don't laugh at the ganster 20" wheels, they are going up on CL asap. lol





It has a 4" Superlift drop bracket lift on it the front with flat leaf springs and 4" blocks on the rear that I am going to pull and sell.




Found this Doug Thorely long tube header in the back with the full exhaust system, the guy had no idea what it even was. This will be going on my 4runner.



Anyways lots of good parts on this thing for cheap, I am going to sell of the rest. I'll start a part out thread in a week or so. Anybody who ferquents my build here will get dibs on what I'm not using.

exactly why some people should have their hands broken for such offenses. The PO of my truck only must have used his feet to work on my truck.
So as the example above shows....'Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!'

However, you probably wouldn't have picked it up on the cheap if it hadn't already been involved in some drive bys...wait i mean... needed work.

 

ahhhhh hahahah ahhhhahhhhhh my gaaawd that is one screwed-up runner. if the 20's weren't enough, there's the blocks, and then the bracket lift with lowered t-bars



anyway, if it has a non-heater tall center console, i'll probably take it. other than that, good luck with the sale, and i bet you can sell dem twen'ies for more than you paid for the runner

 

looks like a good find rob you should make your money back easy enough and still be able to hold onto a lot of parts for yourself. and the trailer looks great I realy need to spend some time working on mine, you know after the runner and the wifes truck and the new truck and and and, yep I'll get to it just as soon as I can

Man that thing makes me want a project truck even more...not that I would want to start with something quite that bad and rusty. Still a nice find and I'm sure that you can make your money back pretty easily by parting it out.

 

1st of all....awesome job on the trailer. good detail work. that kinda stuff ALWAYS pays off in the long run.

2nd....holy crap on the 4runner find.....and especially the Doug Thorleys.....nice.

 

I almost miss my parts truck now.

 

Does anybody know what I should be using as far as gaskets go for the Doug Thorley header? And where I can buy them? I know LCE sells header & collector gaskets but I'm not sure if they are the same for the DT header.

 

I think people on here has had good luck with the REMFLEX gaskets. I have no exp with them. The one that came with my rock rebuild kit from EB is on my Downey Header and I have yet to have an issue with it. I did however have to torque it down a couple times after install, but I believe that is perfectly normal. And that was with new studs and nuts from LCE.

 

x2 heard this as well. With that being said just make sure the header's flange is straight and if not take it to a machine shop and have them make it straight. On my old truck i actually had a pace setter header seal up perfect with a stock oe gasket after taking it in and getting the flange straightened. Another note to consider is to go ahead and ceramic coat that sucker. It was easy to do with my old header and kept it from rusting. I used a vht header paint from the local auto parts store. Before i installed it i cured it with a propane torch.

 

I have a brand new OE gasket at home I might try since it is free, if It leaks at all then I'll order the remflex I guess. What should I do about the collector?

Does it not have a collector flange? If not you can by them from any performance warehouse, or any good exhaust shop can make one.

 

Your trailer turned out nice. Great job. Good score on the runner, but them wheels I would have to pass on. Cant believe they put them on a runner. The headers was a nice bonus.

 

WOW, almost 2 months since this thread has been updated. Sorry fellas, life has been crazy. Lots to report though actually. I have been using and abusing the truck as much as possible, daily driving it most of the time and leaving my Tacoma in the garage. Getting decent mileage, around 18-20. With the 33's and 5.29's I can run 80 mph down the highway as long as it's flat. I have been wheeling a few times and of course have new damage to report.

I should be shot for this but I never properly bump stopped my Downey leaf springs and they got bent really badly


Sits really low in the rear with the bent springs.


The spring hanger also got bounced off of a rock


So a buddy gave me some old All-Pro springs he had laying around. I am not a fan of All-Poo AT ALL! But they where free and I am going to let the get me by for awhile.


Cleaned and painted them


They lifted the 4runner a ton, I am going to go back and pull a leaf out, They are way too stiff and dont flex at all.






Today I traded a buddy tires, evewn swap, my 33x10.5 BFG mud terrains for his 35x12.5 Goodyear MTR Kevlar's. Both had great tread and I could not pass up the chance to up size my tires.





The 4runner looks mean with the 35's on it. I am sorry for being absent so much and I will do my best to catch up on everyone's builds asap.
