Good to hear you like the 3.4. its amazing how much more grunt it has than the 3.0! Especially with some steep gears.

I was looking at mine today - the stock sunroof slides back inside the roof - there isn't much room left to put one behind it, unless you went with an aftermarket pop-up one in both locations, and that wouldn't let in as much air as the factory setup (and likely would leak)

I was looking at chopped 4Runners and if I chop it I don't think there is enough space to go double. I just trying to think of ways to open it up inside. Cause spring and summer, and most of autumn is gorgeous for trail riding. I don't have to tell you that. It's beautiful where you are.

As metioned above, with all the windows down and the sunroof open there's A LOT of airflow. If you do something about the rear cargo area glass (which, if you can't find one in a junkyard will run you $427.19 new as a dealer only item) then it's pretty wide open!

I love the difference between the 3.4 and the 3.0. After the swap i can pull the hills i travel every day in 5th gear. Opposed to the 3.0 where i would have to downshift to 3rd to pickup speed at all.
I'm from clayton, small place right near mount diablo and don't get me wrong it's hilly, my own driveway is a few hundred feet and steep enough that the county forced us to have slats in it for traction, but I guess I just don't mind shifting lol. Like I know what you guys mean but I've been able to get over anything I've come across without much trouble.

Have you ever thought about chopping the whole top off it? Up in Co you'd have to wear a lot of jackets lol but there was a guy and his wife that did the UA trip a few years back and they had a sick 2nd gen that was completely chopped. I'll see if I can find some pics.

Yeah I want it be closed up for winter off roading. Wearing bunches of jackets isn't my idea of fun. Though that rig does look awesome.

Ok so I was looking around and I can get a wrecked Tundra for roughly 2 grand. Entire thing. Now would it be best to use the Tundra transfer case and front diff. Seeing as everything else is going to be Tundra? I would be using most everything off of the tundra but due to the wrecked tundras using the 4Runner body and chassis. Right? Or am I way off base here.

I'm parting out all the stuff I won't need right now on CL thats why I was wondering. i like the idea of a V8, Tundras are pretty common up in the Denver import wrecker yards. I have found a few folks with Tundra wrecked that they are willing to sell whole. Figure on using the engine, trans, transfer case, front diff. All that good stuff.

I don't know - that's a helluva swap and I've never seen a writeup on how to interface the wiring between the body and the motor.

Yeah, as I see it. The running lights, brake lights, and interior windows, sun roof wires would be from the 4Runner everything else would be the tundra. Everything from the engine bay would be gone and I would take everything from under the dash out and use that.

It will be interesting. Lots of custom fab. work I imagine. But that is half the fun to me is the process of building something. Though I'm wondering how this will fit. But look forward to the challenge.

Reading around there are a few issues with the 2uz. 1uz is the around the same weight as the 3.0, and stronger. Does anyone know what years those came in? I can't seem to find it again. Anyone hear about the Lexus 5.2? Searching their forums over at http://www.lextreme.com/forums/forum...e=2&order=desc

Ok that sounds about right. Seem like good power plants. Now I need to find one. Preferably the entire vehicle.

Thats what I'm gonna put in my truck. Lots of 1uz swaps have been done so there is plenty of info so just search around.

Around here if you are lucky you can find them for about 1000 with body damage. Other wise they are up around 1800. And 3000 and up in perfect condition. Wouldnt wanna tear one of those apart though.

I found just the engine for $400, so I'm sure if I keep looking I will find the entire vehicle for about a grand. And there are plenty of information on lexusextremes and uzswaps.com.

Would it be best to use the trans. from the V8 or my R150? If I switch to a new trans. will that work with the transfer case?
