TRDevelopment's 1988 4Runner Build-Up Thread

Hello everyone,

Ive been a member on here for a little over 3 months and I just wanted to share my rig with everyone on here. I've gotten a lot of help from different members about things concerning my truck and I felt like it was time to make a "buildup thread". Well here it is, its a 1988 4runner SR5 that I bought for $700 and in very rough shape back in September of 2010. It wasnt running properly and the guy I bought it from said it was probably something small. I got it home and realized that I would need a rebuilt motor due to no compression in #2 cyl and a bad rod knock. I didn't care because I felt this is a really good truck to build up to my personal likings. My plans are to build a .030 over 3vze with some goodies like ARP headstuds, lc engineering headers and other misc stuff. Here are some pictures and hope you guys enjoy.

Here is a set of ifs Aisin hubs that I will be rebuilding.

This is going to be the heart of my rig. A 3vze shortblock that had a bad bore job of 022. over so I will be honing it another .008 and put some brand new pistons in it.Yeah I know its dirty/rusty, keep in mind it will be cleaned and prepped when it all goes back together.

A 2nd gen 4runner steering wheel I got from a local junkyard for $20 bucks! I ended up fixing it the back part of it and painting it to match my interior.

Mods so far
Brand new fuel filter
NGK spark plugs
NGK Plug wires
TRD floor mats
Aisin IFS hubs
2nd gen 4runner Steering wheel

Future Mods
4.56 gears
Aussie locker
Altimeter
Rebuilt 3VZE longblock
ARP headstuds
bfg 32s
arb bumper
Custom rear bumper with tire carrier
15x10 black rims
lc engineering headers
Safari snorkel
rock sliders

Ok time for an update. Me and Assyrianrocker went to town this weekend and pulled the rest of the motor out of my Runner. In its place is going to be a completly rebuilt 3vze. Here is some pics of the progress so far.

Awesome, I'd like to completely rebuild my engine in my truck as well just like you are doing. I'm curious what your plans are for when after the engine rebuild is done?

Sorry for the late reply. My plans are just to have a very reliable 3vze. However I did bore it out .040 over. Unfortunatly you do not gain a lot of performance with the 3vze when modded so, I just hope it lasts a long time with no problems. I will be regearing the truck though.

Got a chance to put some Dynamat with the help of my gf in my truck over the weekend. The project was pretty straight forward. I'm a type of person that just hates rattles inside a vehicle, so for me it was more for eliminating these types of noises and not so much installing an off the wall sound system. I also pulled all the seats and carpet and pressure washed them.

roll bar painted with duplicolor "bed liner"

(I don't think I would ever suggest using this stuff as a bed liner but it works great for bumpers roll bars and such.)

I really wish you could of went out today Nick, we had a blast out by the 303 area. Here are some pictures of the 4runners first time out. It was more of a trial run to see what the truck needed before we go out to any big time trials.
