On another point, is the cooling process, to let it cool with ambient air temperature and avoid quenching it. If its quenched, the steel then becomes more brittle and looses strength. I hope this didn't happen for you...just concerned is all. I know this type of project is money and time expensive and would hate to see money lost with good intentions. I know the process on both welding jobs are GMAW/ MIG but it looks like there may have been 2 different people welding on it soley (spell check please) based on welding bead and profiles...but then again, 2 different types with in the same process. Anyhow, I'm super jealous you're gonna be joining the ranks of SFA YOTA wheelers. Nice progress report and excellent weak issue problem solving...I think its called "thinking out of the box". Hope you and Roni can make the next run and bring your girlfriends, which is cool they don't mind throwing in with some elbow grease, with you.

Sorry so Damn long!

The truss was stitch welded using the Millermatic 211 autoset by one person throughout the whole axle. We payed special attention to not warp the metal so we waited a while after every pass. The very next day I opted to run the welds throughout the whole truss using the same method because I thought it looked cleaner. Taking special precautions for that very same reason, he went ahead and did it for me. I think it turned out really nice personally.

^^I agree^^ It does look nice and again, I'm jealous. Had I kept the 90' I probably would've done the SFA to. Some people know about the warping and some don't. But you did and all is well with it. Nick can lay some pretty nice beads, that's for sure , and the MillerMatic's are nice machine's. Glad you have some one to fuse steel for you and who know's what they're doing. It'll save lot's of money and time with your build. Can't wait to see you wheel with it...

Yeah I cant wait to go out with the new set up. I just bought an E locker third today which is also going in the axle . Having Nick around to do all my fab work at home is defiantly a time/ money saver.

Sorry guys,

Dont really have much of an update. I am working on getting dangerously close to doing this SAS. I just need to save up and get some things like the Bilstein 5150's and another E-locker. I will snap some pics real soon.

Just a small update on some things I been working on. I bought a set of inner trail gear chromoly hub gears and installed them in the hubs. While I was at it I went ahead and painted the housings black since I got some black 15" Walker Evans wheels that will go on the rig as soon as I finish the SAS. I also had my Yukon 4.88 R&P cyro treated by Bobby Long. Last but not least the new look of the axle with the Daves off road front truss.

Thanks a lot, I wish I could take credit for the fab work but all of it was done by my good friend Nick. I really want to get the SAS done but I want to take my time and get everything built properly before I put it in.

Build is kind of going slow because of lack of funds for the project. Here are a couple pictures from when I went wheeling a couple weeks back with AssyrianRocker.

Alright so it seems like I only update this thread once every couple of months so it was only fitting I would let you guys see what I been up to.

I'm really big into snowboarding so I thought Id snap a couple of pics of the truck when I loaded it up with some boards and went up north to Snowbowl.

It seems like I update this thread once every 6 months but funds just haven't been there for me to get this project really rolling.I did manage to get my cbi bumper all welded up and flap wheeled. I will be sending it to the powder coater in the next couple of days and snap some pics when it goes on the rig.
