I suggest not painting the engine bay or block black...

Makes it harder to find leaks..

Yep, ....and heck, mine is RED and I still can't see the oil leaks really well, haha. Imagine if it was black it'd be harder.... (I know, Ian, ...jokz, I get it, lol). But outsane is correct is all I was sayin, lol.

Heck, even that gold paint would be pretty cool.....just make the WHOLE THING A 'GOLDMEMBER WAGON'! ............" OOOOOOOoh, that's toight....toight like a toiiiiiiiiiigerrr!" hahaha.

Seriously, I think that alumicote paint I used on my valve cover and efi stuff would look good on a block. Matching the head kinda deal? Like a stainless fridge.... "COLD, IMPERSONAL AND VERY PRACTICAL LOOKING!" lol

Never thought about gold, that's a cool idea!

What's this alumicote paint you're talking about? Sounds sweet.

Ok, ....see the valve cover and plenum on mine?

That's alumicote. It's made to get the valve cover and other engine components to look as much like sweetly polished aluminum as possible, with a TINY bit of flake in it, and most importantly, so you can clean your v-covers, etc., without an issue. (Just putting them on, whenever you touch one that's not painted--valve cover, intake-- it leaves oil from your hands, and then within weeks you have a nasty smudge there that will NEVER come out with just simple green cleanin! lol. I chose that and then the Ford Red for the inset parts because I didn't want TOO much red in the engine bay....already is red, hahaha. But I did the block red, as you can see. I like it...but sure, with your engine bay being bronze, I assume in the 90's one? yeah, Maybe Alumicote High Heat Engine Paint or Bronze color engine paint? Just a thought. Sure would be original...they're always black or some color like mine.... which is fine, but yeah, ....not orig as bronze would be?

Ah ok i see, great explanation and beautiful engine btw!!

I like the way yours looks, i'm thinking of doing something similar but leaving the Toyota logo in alumicote (remember i will have the 3.4L 5VZE). And i would paint the rest of the block and intake manifolds in bronze like this;

Hahaha... thanks, and TRUST ME, Brian.... as I said, I wouldn't trade all I've learned over this endless barrage of 'troubleshooting' and 'machinist mistakes' that I've encountered... But MAYBE, just maybe, had I known then what I know know that I've dealt with?... I'd have painted it Puke Green for the sake of not chasing my tail for months! hahaha.

Nah, it was all worth it, and eventually, ....I'll be done with any and all mods, my restoration, and VOILA, ....I can enjoy every drive without 'STRESS' over this or that. I think it's a cool idea, and I like the paint color. Only thing..... the bronze will barely contrast against the Aluminum or alumicote(I HIGHLY recommend you paint the intake, etc., if it's not already polished or clear coated from the factory. Reason being, it will be so much easier to clean up after/if/WHEN YOU DO have to work on it, ya know? lol.

Thanks for the compliment, I like it much!

Oh yeah, ....are you even rebuilding the 3.4? lol. If not, i wouldn't even bother for now. Wait and see how many THOUSANDS OF MILES you can get out of it and THEN go to town on the detail stuff if you pull it later on? Or are you building it first on a stand?

I need to see how bad or good of shape it's in first, i mean it only has 118K on it so it shouldn't need a rebuild. At the very least i will do the timing belt though.

Is he giving you any receipts with the motor? Maybe it's been done like 5K ago? lol. Heck, it would be good to just poke around a bit and learn sum'n-sum'n! lol.

Cool, yeah, I'd just go through looking for obvious leaks, etc., and maybe might wanna send the injectors in, Brian, eh? Shouldn't need to, but it'd be so easy while you're in there, lol.

Hey, maybe you can get a power tool on the crank and test the compression?

I'm excited for ya ,man!

The harness was cut right at the firewall and the ECU wasn't included, i'll have to pick one up on Ebay, they are cheap, they go for about $60.
