Good luck!
Chef, the guard dog's are Goodyear Wrangler mt/r's, treadwright even found me correct casings to retread.....

look familiar?

This brand came very highly recommended. And its not like the old "recaps" the semi trucks used to get.

They have been great for me, the only problem I have with them is the weight. The shipping weight of the Guard dogs was 59 pounds!!!! So mounted on the rims they are 80 pounds a piece.

I ended up craigslisting a second set of rims and tires with bridgestone revos, and the combo is 65 pounds. My exhaust is quieter, mpg's are up, and the motor just flat out doesn't work as hard. So new plan is to get a set of goodyear wrangler duratracs, as mentioned above.. Look of a Mud terrain with the weight and performance of an all terrain. And if you got a set of 31's, they are only 43 pounds a piece, so you are just about 60-65 pounds, much nicer for your motor.

Me likey,

But if you do consider the treadwrights, call and ask em about the weight. Its something I need to consider, my motor is original with 195k miles on it.

nice Jason......definitely something I am considering as far as an m/t tread goes.......price to my door for 2 tires was like $229 or so, i think........i'm also considering the Pep-Boys Definity Dakota m/t's.........i have them from way back when they were called FUTURA M/T and they held up nice.....but i agree with you....very heavy on my steel American Racing rims

The only other tires that came in a C rating in the 265/75/16 size that had a good weight rating was the toyo open country a/t's. Which one looks cooler to you?

See when it comes time for tire picking i want a good versatile road/offroad tire so probably an A/T I also need something light.

If you want off road capable you should at least go for a 6 ply (c rated) tire. I think you are good with a light All terrain. BFG all terrains are close to 50 pounds.

There are more then just those 2 tires out there (obviously) But those were the best 2 that met my needs.

And actually, the duratracs are cheaper then the toyo's. That pretty much seals the deal for me.

i have BFG Long-Trail t/a's on right now, with the m/t's ready to be mounted on the truck when i arrive at Rausch ( i think LUMPY is doing that switcheroo too).

i had a set of BFG all-terrain t/a's for years that eventually became dry-rotted before they wore out....in other words they wore well, just don't last forever.

my 1st set of 31's was General Grabber AP's and they were very quiet and smooth....i got the BFG all-terrains for a steal when a friend mounted them without realizing he was going to rub his valence on his Ranger, so rather than remove his valence he sold them to me

I have 16 inch rims but yes. I just run either 265/70/16 or 245/75/16 as opposed to 31/10.5/15's, but the weights are within a pound or two of each other.

yup, looks good. Only thing I did different was zuk mod instead of add a leaf. But the BJ spacers were great. I actually netted just over an inch and relaxed the torsion bars for a softer ride.

You have new shocks picked out?

the add a leafs aint all that bad. yess they ride a lil stiffer but you can harly feel it. i say get that kit and go from there and to save money on shocks you can stack washers on em. i did that until i had enough for longer shocks

Looks like they are the longer add a leafs. And I trust Brian would steer people the wrong way, I assume they will work out just fine.

So did you order it yet?

I like the zuk mod. But I know you said you didn't want to cut. The add a leafs will be fine. Not trying to talk you out of it. I am not one of the guys on here that try to convince others the way they built a rig is the only way. Just offering up options. At the end of the day you still get to do whatever YOU want to YOUR rig.

And since the rig will sit a little higher then stock, it says you will need longer shocks. Some guys will space the shock with washers to give it a little more play to buy time before spending another couple hundred bucks on shocks. I can't even remember where I got mine from, but I got Gabriel max controls. I like em. Alot of folks like bilsteins, tokicos, ranchos. It's all about your budget. You might have a hard time buying shocks that cost almost as much as your rig! LOL!
