Swimmerboy2112's 1986 4Runner Build-Up Thread

Uh, plug that tire, no need to get all bummed about a nail. could happen to any vehicle.
Your rig is 20+ years old, and you need to except the fact that it needs things replaced, and often after you fix something unrelated. However, chances are you will never replace the parts on your truck twice. Other then normal wear items. Buy an American car and see how that goes for you.

What do you guys think about a roof basket on top of my soft top? At first I thought it would look kinda dumb but then in the "Post Your Pics" thread I stumbled upon this pic, and it is not stupid in the least bit.
*LOVE the fiberglass high arched fenders too! Put that on the list! lol*
Opinions?

Omg wow. This truck just inspired me to buy a soft top for my truck. I am currently saving up money for the font and rear bumpers.
I want an ARB bumper like the one you have on your yellow 4runner. And i want a tire rack like the one on this red 4runner.
Whould your front bumper fit on an 89 4runner with an SAS? Or is it a different type of bumper?

Something will always be broken lol. you have to watch out owning multiple Toyotas they will get jealous of each other. When I got my 4 runner the head gasket blew on my pickup when I sent the pickup away to get fixed under the 4runner spun a bearing lol Boothe 22re with less than 30k on the rebuilds by different shops...

I'm starting to loose patience with the 4Runner...
It seems that everytime I fix something, something else breaks.
I attempted to repair my exhaust leak and found a nice 3" galvanized nail in my rear tire, in between my tread blocks. It's holding air fine but I guess it's time for a new set...
The 4Runner is really starting to get to me. I need help staying motivated.

Re-read what you wrote, man..... Cuz a 3" nail can find it's way to ANY rig's tire, right?
OK, now that that's all broken up with a mixture of levity/logic.. Let's really look at this........
1. Exhaust leak exSHMAUST leak! lol... Quick fix, even if you let someone else do it
2. REPAIR THE TIRE, ....DANGIT! LOL. They're decent tires, no need for 'new set'.....
3. Maybe you're a lil overwhelmed by the prospect of SAS'n something that you feel might need a bit more work before you 'go there'? Don't you have all the stuff for it? Just get the trip to Rausch out the way and then dig in, all summer if need be... I guarantee you wont be selling that thing for a while once you do that, right? So, be SURE you want to keep it before you get started, right? Right.
4. JUST BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF! lol.... If you're sick of it, wanting something newer/different... Just strip it, sell the dang thing and be done with it, ya know? You ARE quite a CL hussy... so I'm sure you'd find another. Yet, will you regret not just 'keeping on and getting it just where you want it'??? Weigh everything out and just decide... it's too stressful to try and juggle work and school and "should I or shouldn't I" for months, trust me! lol.
I wont say, "Oh just get over it" or "YOU CAN'T SELL IT, IT'S OLE YELLER"....cuz in the end, all that matters is whether YOU WANT IT and are wanting to just take it to the 'MAX' like you'd apparently planned. You gotta want this... don't let anyone talk you into anything, ya know? There's a couple I kept that I wish I could have that time back! hahaha. The one I have now? Well, that's a different story... I've been through most every inch of it and it's more of a 'it's pretty solid, why pick up another set of problems'. Ya know?
Sorry for going on... But that post struck me as something you 'really need to think about and just make an honest/objective decision', ya know?
By the way, "Seems like as soon as I fix something something else breaks".... JOIN THE 4WD WORLD! lol.. Heck, the "Old 4wd world"... But that's just it.. you're replacing many of those things with pieces to the puzzle that WONT likely break as easily, right?

Thanks for all the support guys.
The rig seems to be driving fine now. I had an issue with the clutch smelling like it was burning when I was driving up hills?? But that has seemed to go away...
The engine itself is great! Lots more power than stock!! I can climb hills in 5th now where I used to shift to 4th and struggle to make it up.
The cam really does a nice job of adding power.
I ordered an exhaust for the 4Runner hopefully I can kill that nasty exhaust leak!
I plan on insulating the inside like RB did, the rattle/road noise is KILLING me!!
Up next is;
-First oil change @ 500mi.
-BudBuilt Skid Plate
-Aux gas tank
-Set of 33X10.5's
-Aussie Locker

Hey Swimmerboy2112 or anyone who knows the answer really,
I seen you have the arb bumper on your truck. I was also looking into getting that bumper as soon as my SAS is installed. I noticed online the website for 4wheelparts asks what year your truck is. So when i choose 1989 4runner it automatically selects the bumper that is compatible with IFS suspension.
So my question is; Considering that i am getting a SAS done, do i need to select 1984 or 1985 years to be compatible with my future solid front axle since that comes with a leaf spring feature?
And as far as the front end goes i will always have to choose 1984 or 85 years from now on after i get an sas right?

GREAT NEWS! And, wow, I REALLY love the 33x10.50's! GREAT choice! Enjoying that CAM I see... AINT IT SWEET? LOL. The header will assist it in 'opening up' a lil...... Hope you enjoy it! (whatcha getting?) Ted of engnbldr seems to prefer stock exhaust with 2.25" out the back AFTER muffler, for proper 'backpressure'.... I'm really beginning to wonder on that.. But I DO love the extra top end, etc., that I seemed to get from the LCE header. (22reperformance.com guys, LCE's competition, even say "I like the LC header most with our motors).... But then I know Ted prefers the Tri-Y... So another headache is either going to ensue.... or YOU'VE JUST SAID SCREW IT and decided on something!
lol.
lol.
