Yeah actually I was hoping to get this thread moved by a mod. I had a lot of confusion about the truck being an '85 or '86 because of the build date. DMV was convinced it was an '85 and the truck sticker said '86, so originally I put it in here with the older trucks.

First off could a mod move this thread to the '86 section? Cheers, and my bad!

Second my 22re took a dump today. I was going up a hill on the way to our family vacation in 4th gear. My truck usually does this hill fine in 4th at 60-65mph. Today it was loosing power, slowing down to 50mph in 4th with just a few small items in the back. I down shifted to 3rd to keep up with traffic hitting about 4k revs. BAM
Loud metal noises from the engine that got louder with RPM. I think I broke a rocker. Its making a loud metal tapping noise, almost non existent with just a slight tapping at idle and than louder and louder as RPMs clime till it sounds like there is a small man in there with a ball-peen hammer going nuts. Before this happened Id been hearing a slight metallic vibration when I hit the gas pedal but it wasnt anything that made me really worried. Kind of sounded like a diesel truck.
Any ideas?
Im on vacation and had to leave the truck at my mom's till I get back so I cant take the valve cover off or drain the oil to look for scrap metal

So I managed to kill the 22re in my truck. Maybe some of you saw my SOS thread. I have never had an engine run out of that much oil in so little time and I have owned a lot of oily old '70s '80s and '90s engines. So the rod bearings are shot. Horrible noises. As this was a very unexpected, all my other money is sunk into other projects, and I haven't worked for months due to injuries, I am going to pick up a decent $800 Craigslist 22re and stick it in the truck till I have more $. Its the best option for me now, because I LOVE this truck and so does the girl friend, so we will keep it and keep it running. I pick up the replacement motor tomorrow night, and work will begin soon after. So much car drama this week.

I picked up my replacement 22re today. Looks clean. Havent done any tests on it yet.
Who makes good replacement gaskets? Preferred brand?
Not not going to do the head gasket but Ill do the oil pan, valve cove, and a few other easy ones while the motor is out.

Sorry to hear about your motor. Looks like your replacement motor is all there. Swapping things over takes alot of time. Looks like you will be able to save some time on that. Not what year your replacement motor is but make sure you use the white top injectors. 88 and newer are a different type of injectors.

My friend and I got a lot of work done on the Yota today. Yanked the dead motor, and moved the manifolds and the accessories from the dead motor to the newer motor sins the '93 stuff does not match the wiring harness on my truck.
We should get the newer motor in and running tomorrow. Today went smoothly.
I didnt really take any pictures sins I got into the work. You guys have seen it before anyways.

I got the newer engine in. Its all hooked up, I just have to do some electrical and vacuum line trouble shooting and some timing tomorrow. We didnt do our selves any favors by not labeling any of the electrical plugs, so I have a few random plugs floating around. I bet one or two of them are for options my car does not have.
I also swapped out the distributor so the timing is off. Ill get to use my timing light for the first time.
Here are some metal flakes I found in the old oil pan. Looks like I struck gold.

I need some help getting this thing to run correctly. Currently it is only running on one cylinder.
I set the timing to 5 degrees TDC on cylinder #1, and put the distributor in. The distributor lined up to the #1 position. So thats all good. I need to finalize the timing, but I cant do that with the motor only running on one cylinder. I wish I knew some one that knew more about these trucks.
Most likely I dont have all my electrical plugs connected correctly.
The vacuum lines look right, but the vacuum lines on my engine do not match any of the pictures in my manual. Seams like I have vacuum parts from a few different years when I look at all the pictures. So thats driving me nuts.

Did you switch the injectors over from the old engine??
If an engine lays for too long, the injectors will gum up from the stale fuel, and stick closed.

I only used the head and block from the newer engine. Everything ells is from my engine which was running and never sat around.
I wish the injectors were easier to get to so I could check if they are all squirting fuel. I cant even easily hook up a noid light with out taking the frickin manifold off again.

Cylinders 1 & 3 are running but 2 & 4 are not running. 2 & 4 do how ever have spark, so that means they are not getting fuel. More trouble shooting.
