That awning is something I'd never thought of, and now probably something I'll probably not stop thinking of.

ha, one of the most useless tools for the toyota

that way if your latch breaks, you can just get another one for free!

I think i have two more in a drawer
If the latch breaks it has a 12mm nut the wrench is welded to. and if that breaks(it is actually an old body mount bolt OEM) i'll have to hacksaw it, but i made sure there was a bit of clearance if such an event would need to take place. I wanted to mount it using a De-Sta-Co clasp, but never got around to buying one. Mainly because i couldn't decide which style...i could always add it later.

there's a bunch on e-bay and amazon. personally, i like the kind that allow you to "slam" them shut without having to line anything up. people like these because they hold tight, reducing rattle. i like this style, because it looks cool

I, actually do not use my tailgate alot, of course that may change. This method was simple and basically free, and easy to fix or replace. Not to mention adjustable if it starts to rattle.
I also spent extra time making sure it lined up very well, and only takes a few turns before it is snug.

Nice work, man! Interesting.... I've been WANTING a roof rack, but have more pressing matters and no money, not to mention some personal debts, lol. But NEEDING, as well, to really think on that, as the rack can cause some issues with clearance and mileage on long trips and catching on things, etc, lol. Like the look of that, RB, great fabbing!

Hey Ian,.... for some reason that second one you posted reminds me of "No Country for Old Men", Javier Bardum's Cattle Punching tip! lol.

Thanks mark, the rack is amlittle noiser but it came with the can-back top. I really want to get a basket to mount on it, that will really destroy the gas mileage.
