Out! Talk about driving over your own... Sorry, just seems funny that the time. Lol... anyway, I'm going to be tinkering with mine a little more but I think I have a pretty good setup.

I stopped by Muffin Mufflers in Austin this morning. I intended on just having them take a look and give me a quote, but they were able to work on it right away so I went ahead and took care of it.

The guy was VERY helpful, and put up with me agonizing over every detail and option. In the end I decided to just ditch the under-bed spare (I don't like to keep it down there anyway) and give the exhaust more room to be run tucked up high and away from the wheels and leaf spring.

I'm very happy with how high up he ran it. You can't even see it when you're standing next to the truck.

I'm still curious to see your setup Mark.

The probable cause to your busted CV axle can be identified in this photo.

Low profile Bump and Droop stops. They allow the suspension to flex more than the CVs can handle.

Yup, no doubt. But the benefits have outweighed the cost of a replacement axle so far. I also got over-zealous with putting power down with only one front wheel hooking up.

Low Profile Bumps and BJ Spacers are a sure way of binding up CVs on themselves. Here is a thread I wrote that details what is going on.

Yeah, mine are hacked up like that too. The truck came that way, so I'm just enjoying what I've got until I can afford to SAS. I like how you boxed in the spacer. Unfortunately my control arm bushings and cam bolts are all rusted up, so the only option is cutting them out. I started to consider doing all that work, but I've decided to run it as-is (the positive camber isn't fun either) until I do the SAS.

One CV axle in nearly two years with some pretty hard wheeling, I think I'm doing alright. I try to drive smart and keep the stresses I'm putting on my IFS system in mind, but as I try bigger obstacles I know it's going to start being an issue.

Thanks for the link. Your thread really describes the issue well.

Cutting out the cam bolts isn't fun. A large diameter cut off wheel can get deep enough but the LCA bushings and hardware will be destroyed. The sacrificial bushing and hardware can be replaced. Just don't cut up the frame bracket. But if your SAS, that's a moot point. Sad to see you jump ship on the IFS, you have had some good wheeling over the years. One CV axle in two years with how you are set up and what you have wheeled is doing all right!

Still working through your thread. I may put the factory droop stop back on, hopefully I've still got them in the garage.

I don't hit anything at speed, though. It's all low speed crawling. So even if I'm maxing out the ball joints I imagine I'm not putting damaging loads on them.

I've got nothing against IFS and I TOTALLY admire your long travel kit. The terrain we have here in central Texas just feels like SAS is more appropriate.

Thanks for all the good post!

Going SAS is fine with me, just busting your chops, I don't take it personally. Keep reading and searching maybe there is still a chance to save you from the dark side. Type in "blazelander2013" and some good YT threads can be found.

Thanks, I really appreciate that.

The tires are Treadwright Guard Dogs, 265/75R16.

Ive been running my 1.5 bj spacers for awhile now and ive had no binding or steep angles. Also having the diff drop helps alot. I busted a cv once climbing a steep embankment and heard a loud pop when it busted but i dont blame that on my lift,i was really hammering on it and actually thought the pop was my locker til i looked it over and seen the cv busted.

I think Blazeland makes a awesome setup and would love to have it but one thing at a time for me.

That's exactly what I thought when mine broke too. I thought it was just the locker.

I made sure to install that diff drop early on when I first got the truck and started learning about IFS systems.

I pulled my rear diff and had it checked out by Land Cruiser Specialists here in Austin. They tightened up the backlash, but otherwise said things seemed fine. The bearings in the pinion are behaving a little weird, but nothing critical. I probably messed something up there when I replaced the pinion seal. While at the shop I forgot I had done that so I didn't get to mention it to them as a possible reason.

I got the truck back together and on the road last week (!!!) and have really been enjoying it. Until last night, when I heard a loud hissing noise when I got on the brakes. Looks like my brake booster is busted. Getting fully stopped is a bit scary now, and I certainly wouldn't trust it on a hill, so I guess that's the next project.

Hey CHRIS! Wow, it's always something, right? I have a booster in perfectly fine CALI-Condition, if you're looking for one. Lemme know. 4cyl/87.

I'm back on the road! HUGE thanks to ChefYota4x4 (Mark) for hooking me up with a booster so fast! Swapping it out was pretty straight forward.

The existence of the 4.7L V8 Toyota engine is making it very difficult to search for used 4.7 gears or built transfer cases...

We had another trip out to Hidden Falls last weekend. Unfortunately I didn't really get any video, but I got a few photos I'll post up soon.

The 4Runner is running well. I think I want to get 4.7 gears and a cage in it next.
