New 87 4runner

Been looking for a 1st gen for long time. Really wanted an 85 but settled on this 87 22re 5speed with 31s and it runs great for 208,000 miles. I'm loving it almost as much as my 89 pickup. Plans are pretty simple, window tint, exhaust, and new wheels when the tires wear out. Already put an OME steering damper on. The original one was shot.

So going to replace shifter console cover and trans shifter seat. But is there a piece of the cover missing? There are two more places for screws.

Or actually is this a R15O trans instead of a W56? Looks to be some cutting done somewhere down the road before it came to me.

Nice looking 4runner you have! I don't know to much about the R150 trans, other than they came behind the 3.0 V6, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't bolt up to your 22re. I needed a trans for my 86' and couldn't find another W56, so I had to swap in a G52 out of an 85' and had to trim around the front of the shifter just like yours to make it fit. Also the shifter console had to be moved forward a little because the trans shifter would hit it.

Okay thanks. I just need to make sure what trans i have so that i have the right seat. I may give marlin a call Monday morning after work. The white seat is what I have, it may work. I'll have to check back on their site. I just have to cut some notches to access the front two shifter bolts. Be cool if its a r151f but I'm not sure. Does seem to have really low 1st gear.

Yeah I'd like to have a R151f too! A little beefier trans behind my 302 would be a nice, lol.
Did you try crawling underneath your 4runner to get to those front 2 bolts? Its kind of a pain, but there should be enough space between the floor and the trans to get a wrench in there and get those bolts out.

Yes. Tried that, can't turn a wrench. Wrench hits the floor unless I have a really short 12mm. Idk. Its no big deal though. Just like know what trans is in here
