NCalDyer's 1991 4Runner Build Up Thread
I bought my 4Runner in early 2010, it has since been my daily driver and my project. Due to a small income, its progressing slowly.
4Runner Information:
Year: 1991
Engine: 3vze 3.0 Liter V6
Transmission: R150F 5 Speed Manual
Body: Faded Grey, Rear Mount Spare, Sunroof, 4 Door
When I bought it the engine was weak, the front seats weren't correct, the sunroof was only half on its track, it had no spare, the speedometer and odometer didn't work, no horn, no deck or speakers, and the AC didn't work.
Since then I have done or had done:
V06 Head Gasket Recall (Toyota In Auburn, CA)
Marlin Crawler Polyurethane Shift Lever Bushing
Removed Side Steps And Rear Bumper
Installed Deck And Speakers
Replaced Front Seats With Stock Ones
New Battery
New Air Filter (Changed Regularly)
CB Radio (RadioShack)
Secondary Cigarette Lighter
Cut Exhaust Before Rear Swaybar
New TPS
New CV Axle
Replaced Rear Diff. Seal
New Engine Belts
New Rear Shocks
New Rear Coils (OME HD901, Not Installed Yet)
Remanned Starter
Polyurethane Swaybar Bushings Front And Rear
Picture Time!

Yeah, update! How's the ome stuff working? And with your rear bumper removed, any ill effects with those wires and license plate without the bumper covering them? I've been debating taking mine off.

Definitely time to start updating again, it has been far too long. Alot has happened since I've last posted.
I am now engaged
And I also work at a trailer dealership doing minor repair work and detailing. (for the time being)
Installed the OME springs and the new shocks in the rear (non-OME) and I love it. Getting the springs in with a rented spring compressor was sketchy but it ended up working out just fine.
I also now have 33x10.5R15 Toyo MT's on Les schwab steelies, (pics coming soon). I had to hammer the pinch weld slightly and use a cut-off wheel to cut back part of the lower part of the stock front bumper. Barely rubs only at full lock.
Another few things to add:
The starter was intermittently refusing to start, just giving a click, after alot of trouble shooting and putting yet another re-manned starter, I finally located a clod of wiring under dashboard that was electrical taped together, upon removing the tape the starter has fired over reliably every time (thankfully).
The muffler also broke off while the family and I were camping, got a fix-it ticket for being noisy haha so I had it welded back on. The whole exhaust system needs re-done anyway, but for now its legal.
My sunroof no does not work with the switch at all, both of the "straps" that move it back and forth have broken.
And last but not least I have discovered that my water pump is either dead or is failing me, so getting that replaced is definitely in my near future, as soon as I have time and a place to tear into it.
Sorry for the mega long post, glad to be back, gonna be posting regularly again, and pics will come soon as promised

Pics as promised:
And also, I have had no issues with having no rear bumper or side steps on my rig, even with the wires which are just for my CB antennae and the light for the license plate and they could easily be re-routed, but i just ended up zip-tying them in place for now.

About the wires that were under the rear bumper for the license plate light, I have had no ill effect at all since removing the bumper.
Tore apart the front of the motor and found my water pump was just fine, did a thorough radiator and heater core flush and replaced the heater core valve with a brass manual valve from the hardware store since I found the stock one had slowly disintegrated and plugged my lines. Wish there was more new stuff to post about her right now, but sadly my job has stolen most of my time, no more starter issues at all though which is nice.
On one last note, I have purchased another Runner, so this one might be up for sale soon, is anyone interested? I will be starting a new build up thread on my new runner as well.

Newest pics are here, nothing has changed mush due to lack of funds and time but that won't stop me, may slow me though.
This pic has the new runner in it as well, as well as part of my bike lol

I remember seeing this truck around town for a while. Too bad it's stuck in a revolving door now. Good luck on the new rig, I can't wait to see the new build thread!
