Mike's 93 Pick~Up Build

Hey guys.....

I picked up a 93 pickup about 3 weeks ago. I traded what was left of my 85 runner parts truck straight up for this 93 pickup.

Here's the Specs:

93 toyota pickup 4x4
22RE
5 speed
150,000 miles
Short bed regular cab
Completely stock.....,

When I traded for this truck it would not run. Had no radiator and lots of water was in the oil. It has also been hit really hard in the front end.

So here started the build.
I started diagnosing and came to realize that the fuel pump was shot along with the sending unit. I purchased a new pump from parts store and replaced the old sending unit with one from a 2wd ext cap 91 model pickup. That wasn't easy. I had to extend the pump hanger and replace the fuel lines so it would all hook up correctly. So anyhow I got it running. Once it was running I back it off my trailor and started texting into the engine. My water in oil leak was coming from the timing cover. The plastic tension had broken allowing the chain to run a hole into the cover. So I replaced all of that including buying a new radiator and got it running really good. Three days later about 200+ miles later the #3 rod broke and flew threw both sides of the block.

So I had a spare engine from a 87 2wd truck that only has 90,000 miles although its carbed. So this is we're my engine build started. I took my carbed engine and tore it down replacing every gasket and seal there is. I then started swapping EFI components over to my new engine. As of right now I have my old engine pulled and my new engine ready to go in. That comes tomorrow.

Here is a list of things I'm going to do.
BJ spacers and diff drop - already ordered
2" shackle lift in rear - already ordered
NWOR torsion bars - already ordered
33" KM2's - already installed
Replace entire front core support/inner fenders
Replace 6" of frame on the front end
New hood - already purchased
New Fenders
Front bumper - build my own / may buy ?
Rear bumper - same as front ?
2" body lift - ?????????
Install replacement engine - tomorrow
Install a radio
Bucket seats

Lots more too lol

Sorry I have no pics at the moment. I will post pics tomorrow of the truck along with old engine and new replacement engine. So please stay tuned and I will update as I go along.

Well today I got my replacement engine installed. My wife and I had it running in about 3 hours. I still have a few vacuum lines to hook up and it will be finished.

Sorry I do not have any pics prior to pulling the engine.

And tomorrow is a totally different day. I still have lots left to do so I will take some pics tomorrow as well.

You can see in those first three pics most of the damage on the front end. Im going to replace all of it by cutting out the entire front core support along with inner fenders and welding in new.

I drove it today for the first time with the new engine. I've got about 50 miles on it so far. It seems to be running great. No abnormal noises and all gauges look great.

I'm currently at a salvage yard at the moment sourcing a new core support & inner fenders. They priced it all to me for $75.00 if I cut and remove it my self. That's not a bad price to me.

Wow what a story lol.... Yeah I'm assuming mine hit a tree as well. The frame is bent just behind the passenger upper a arm as well. I have a good friend that specializes in straightening frames. He said he can fix mine. Is just barely bent. Although its noticeable.

Lol I dunno how true it is but all the in laws swear she use to do all her mechanic work till we met. I know she jumps right in with me....

Hmm kinda reminds me of that Bruno chick. Just mine owns a Suzuki instead of a good ole toy lol.

I didn't get the cooling lines as mine have already been replaced.

Update:
Picked up a set of front brakes today. Both calipers are seized and one rotor is junked.
Going back to part store in a few to get all the new brake hardware. My piggy banks getting low with this truck already lol

And here's the final look. My 33's clear good now with slight rub. I'm thinking of a body lift now but I'm still unsure about what size.

The previous owner of this truck apparently used a hack saw to make a large hole for a after market radio. So I decided to fab something up.

It's still not finished as I gotta paint it and figure out how to mount it. I'm going to use the bottom for toggle switches.

You're missing the stereo brackets I see also, might want to rethink that mount or you won't be able to hide the fasteners for the face plate.

Tack some studs or hex nuts to the back and drill thru the trim piece, or tack some studs to some strips and glue the strip inside the trim and use acorn nuts on the face plate.

No before shot of the PO carnage

The PO had a peice of plywood wedged in there. I'm unsure of how it look as there was no radio in it. Here's a pic of what was there

I haven't changed my gears yet. If the weather hold off I'm going to swap my 4.88 3rds from my 87 over to my 93 tomorrow. But it turns these 33" tires over really good with the stock 4.10's. I can still run 70-80 with ease

I'm not feeling to good today so I didn't get much done nor did I take any pics. Yesterday when I installed my lift I somehow managed to get something in my eye when I was cutting on the upper A-Arms with grinder. So my left eye has bugged me all day.

As far as updates all I done was remove the factory 4.10 rear 3rd and installed my 4.88 rear 3rd. I have already removed my 4.88 front 3rd from the 87 although I haven't installed it in my 93 yet. I may do that in a day or so depending on how I feel.

I have a update...

Well on me not the truck. I went to doc today. They removed the steal from my eye and now I gotta go back tomorrow. There's a possibility I may have to go see a specialist and then a cornea transplant. I pray to god it doesn't go that far. This is probably the most agonizing pain I've ever had.

Oh I almost forgot. I did replace my broken oil sending unit today. Now my gauge reads

Whoa man that's terrible. I had a really bad experience a few years ago like that. Was working on a hydraulic jack and fluid that was under pressure shot out and right into my eye. And my safety glasses were ........ Up on my head!! Had to sit in the ER with a flusher that was like a massive contact lens with an Iv hooked to it pumping solution through my eye for 2 hrs.

Now I always wear my glasses when doin anything like that.
Anyhow. Your truck is badass. It looks great with the lift and tires.

I wish I could find a deal like that.

Hope the eye thing turns out for the better for you. Keep us updated.

Lmao....

Sorry bout that guys. Yeah the eyes getting great. I went back on Monday and doc gave me a new eye drop to use for the next two weeks. I go back to doc after 2 weeks is up. Vision is back and doing good

As far as the truck goes, I have plans to meet with a ole buddy Sunday. He's the one that owns the frame machine. He's going to look at mine and see exactly how long its gonna take to repair. Then I will go from there.

My biggest debate now is all about a BL. I wanting to install one however I'm unsure of the amount of BL that I want. 2" or 3". I've seen so many different BL's out there on eBay as well as other websites and I dunno what one to buy.

What would you guys go with 2" or 3"? Which company would you purchase from?

Glad the eyes ok. Truck looks great. Unless you have tire clearance problems I probably wouldn't do a body lift I think it looks great in relation to the tires. I have a nice "parts" truck that's complete with a mildly bent frame. I need to find a frame straighter. Any chance your in Washington? Keep up the good work
