Sprint To The Finish Line
Well hello there!
This weekend's happenings:
FRIDAY
-Put on remaining exterior panels (grill, front bumper...etc)
-Installed driveshafts
-DROVE OUT OF THE SHED
SATURDAY
-Put on box
-Installed tailgate
-Removed windshield - Reset moldings - Re-installed windshield
-Installed box electrtical, tailights, fender liners...etc
-Towed to the shop I work at in town
SUNDAY
-Replaced rear main seal
-Adjusted torsion bars
-Brought to exhaust shop
pics:
Breaking down the cocoon wall
Finally out of the shop!
So this was a pretty cool moment, first time it had moved under its own power since fall 2017.
Sitting pretty high in the rear right now with those OME springs and next to no weight in the back, but that will change as we put spare tire, rack, gearbox....etc in the back.
After all the time you spend with your project, its sort of strange to watch it get towed away
So the exhaust gets built tomorrow, alignment probably the next day...if all goes well it should have it's honest maiden voyage this weekend!
P.S. here is one of the interior:
My father made some amazing wood shifter knobs for the build
More to come!

What paint did you use for your grill and bumper. I just picked up an 86 runner with the “chrome” bumper and grill and want to paint them. I didn’t know if plastidip would be better than regular paint or not. Your truck looks good, I need to order some ome springs for this 4runner too, she got some terrible sag

There is an awesome spray can etching primer I have found at Lowe’s. It sprays a dark green. I’ve used it on my wheels years ago and nothing has chipped yet. The stuff is crazy good. You can put any color you want on after that.

Exhaust is done
Alignment is done
Maiden voyage is DONE!
For all intents and purposes this project is complete.
And that feels really good, obviously I have more odds and ends to do, I'll always be adding and improving, but the major work is finished.
Thank you to all that have followed along and helped, you rock.
So what started out as a winter engine swap and mechanical refresh, turned into a two year restoration, and now after all those new parts have been installed obviously one would expect the truck to feel pretty good, and holy ˟˟˟˟ does it ever. The suspension, I expected the Old Man Emu stuff to be pretty stiff, but it's actually a perfect balance, firm yet absorbent. The engine is so quiet and smooth you can barely hear it, and that bump in power makes the rig feel a lot livelier. And the silence! no creaks, squeaks or bangs on the trail, just a low exhaust rumble and the sounds of nature.
See you on the trail

Congratulations!
It must feel really good to get the Truck back on the road (and trails)!
I have been following along and have enjoyed seeing the journey. The Truck turned out great!

Howdy!
So we have about 1000kms on the truck now and things are going extremely well. Had a P0125 pop after the exhaust was built up, bank 1 sensor 1 was hooped, replaced and all is well since then. no codes. NO CODES!
I had an idea to post some before and after shots because it's fun to look at, enjoy
The Engine
The Bottom
The Interior
The Front
The Side
Trying to take things slow but big trips are being planned already, more to come!
