kzink7's 88 pickup build thread

Just bought an 88 truck 2.4 litre EFI with a blown head gasket. plans thus far include first of course is fixing the motor, bigger tires, building some sort of flat bed (the bed was torn off by previous owner) and probably a spool in the rear

Parts came in today, took head to the machine shop to have checked, if all goes to plan (which I know never seems to happen) I should have it running next week

head checked out, no problems just got it back today, parts are all in, did a little cleanup work on the block mostly just removing old gasket material and cut the rear bumper off.

so i got most everything back together except i got a new timing chain set and can't seem to get the the cam gear on all the timing marks are lined up but it just seems a little to short i don't know maybe i can get it to go but its testing my patience... any ideas?

As far as I know its the original engine, the emission stuff all matches what the book says it should look like. But I am not sure is there a number casting somewhere on the engine I can compare?
