So I take it you did not build that truck yourself?

Folks have cut the top off a donor vehicle and welded it in place, or you could do a full body swap.

oh! ive put more blood and sweet in this thing than you know. she is my baby, and ive done every last mod myself. minus the flowmaster exhuast. i let the shop tackle that one.
i am very mechanically inclined, and ready to rip into this baby, but need to figure out all my optoins and come up with a game plan.

i would rather not have to do a full tub swap. and not really into the idea of a tube buggy.
if i do have to replace the entire tub. then i might think about trying to get my hands on a 01 taco 4-door cab. thatd be sweet!

as long as the damage is concentrated on the roof like that and the main tub isnt tweaked it should be fairly simple to just chop your top off and weld a new one on.

I've done the top and backhalf on a pickup cab and it wasnt too hard. It would probably be easier on a 4runner since the back of the cab is open.

With a proper exo cage you would have had some scratches perhaps.

Id see if I could jack it up using a Hi-Lift and beat the windshield frame into submission, put a windshield in, exo it and wheel the crap out of it.

sounds good, im already shopping for a doner truck to chop the top off.
anyone have any suggestions as a good place to cut the pillars? or is pretty much just keep whats still striaght?
im a little concerned about the windshield and maybe doors fitting correctly.
any thoughts or recomendations for where to cut it?

Call California Mini Truck in Pomona. They will have a complete tub or just the can for you. Or hit up Craigslist and buy a donor and just move all of your good parts over.

Toyotas are disposable. When you're done with one, just move everything to a new rig.

It is sad to see a truck like that. hopefully everyone got out safe, I asume. if you have a stedy hand with the welder you should be able to do it with out to many isues. it does help to use some metal scraps you got around to brace the donor cab/roof so it doesn't get all bent out of shape. your gonna need a few friends to help get her looking purty agian. then go exo cage crazy!

do you have any more pictures like from the sides? Your best bet is to cut low on the donor truck. Go low on the A and B pillars and go from there. From the one pic you have it doesn't look like an entire body replacement in necessary.

Good luck with the fix man. Hate to see a flopped anything let alone a yota. Good thing you had the soft top on. And no one got hurt.

ok ive worked in collision shop for years and then started my own co if i was you
access the damage the cheaper way is to chop off the roof and find a donor vehicle to weld on the new roof if u have a roll cage in there then that's the way to go on the roll cage you should have flanged it meaning you run two flanges with two 5.16 bolts so roll cages can be unbolted for issues like this damm its a lot of work to start off with a whole new body and switch stuff over id really go with the chop top way and learn the lesson ....when doing the cut measure like crazy use a tig welder if possible also the windshield make sure that is attached to the transplant as you dont want issues with that test the doors for opening closing tack weld .. measure measure measure cut once tack weld measure then weld it up for sure find a good body shop to do the cosmetics and finish it it up im interested to see this in progress dont tell me u did this after drinking 4 monster drinks listening to metallica !

x2 - you gonna do this roof/cab swap every time you roll it? Because it WILL happen again.
