Got out and worked on her a bit today. Cleaned injectors new seals and O rings. Installed injectors and fuel rail. Installed plenum, removes plenum because I'm a moron and forgot the impossible to get to water hose. Reinstalled plenum a second time. R and R fuel filter. The old one was so plugged I can believe it ran at all.
By this time I looked and felt like I had been swimming with my clothes on, so I called it a day.
I'm glad I didn't notice this on the to the shop or I wouldn't have got anything done. Tangled up in the garden hose by my shop was a snake skin about 5 foot long, have I mentioned I HATE SNAKES Lol.

Liking your paint job Jason. Terry's M/T's look great on your truck.

Tell me about it. The truck I had In high school was running on some bare stock size street tires and my neighbor had some super beefy 31" Thornbird Mudterrains with some massive chunks on the side walls & about 3/16" left of tred. And I mean for an 18 year old high school senior that really mad me feel like a bad ass lol. Driving a 4x4 Toy pickup with nice big m/t's and I was the only one who bought my own truck with my own money none of that mom and dad buying me something like everybody else in school lol so i felt pretty good about myself ahah

Yea I had bought my truck at age 17. I've always being he type to conserve my money. So I gathered all the money I saved up from age 14-17 working construction jobs with my dad allowance for washing the parents cars and yard work, and the horrible subway job I had lol but it paid off. My little brother is the only one of us 3 brothers that didn't work hard for his stuff. Luckly my parents aren't budging lol they wanna make him work for his car like me and the oldest did.

What are you planning to do to this yellow truck of yours?

I bought my first car at 14, I've own many since then and paid for all of them. I have an older brother that in his 40s still can't grasp that Lol.

Plans for the 86 hmmm. Preaty much just drive it at this point. I had big plans for it in the beginning but it having to 5 or 6 years to get it to this point I just want to enjoy it, after being around TERRYS 88 my goal is for it to bwe a nice DD like that. My 97 has become more my toy, don't take this wrong there's just more of the 3rd gens around and I don't have the heart to abuse my 86 any more.

9volt battery and a push button with some alligator clips or a injector harness if you look on youtube for home injector cleaning they explain it in detail and the various bits you need

in my case an jasons we got the oring an filter kit from ebay back flushed the injectors using the carb cleaner then cleaned them normal fuel direction an reassembled them

Make sure the fan doesnt get to the air tube. lol I couldnt pass that one up.

Your truck is a great looking truck and has come a long ways. You arent much further from getting to enjoy it. The fuel issue should be your last issue and you are going to be into the Improvement stages soon and not the Repair stages. Hang in there. I appreciate the compliment on Mistys Runner. You shouldnt be much further to go to get to where hers is at. As well as I know you, when you get it to where you want it and especially bringing yours from where it was at, I can say you will still get a sense of satisfaction even years down the road. Even now I still dont feel that I am driving a 20 some year old truck and having your own blood, sweat, and tears into it is so much different then just buying one.

My 3rd gen and your Ford truck is nice and I am not knocking them, but just like your 86 and 97, you have more pride in them just because you made them what you wanted. Somehow it is easier to make few hundered dollar carpayment for a new car, but when it comes to projects it takes a lot more effort for a few dollars for parts and then getting the time to build it. Once you get the bugs worked out of the 86, you are still going to enjoy the feeling years after it is done. I still feel the same way on the 88.

Well my intention today was to get out and get the old girl fired up, EPIC fail. Got the fuel system, plenum, and everything else reinstalled, went to fire it up crank but no fire ugh. Went thru and checked everything I have been know to miss in the past, dug into it a little deeper and still couldn't find anything. Broke down and called yotech guru terrys87, spent an hour on the phone and still nothing. The one odd thing (I know its not recomeneded we talk about it later) in order to get an idea if I had fuel in the rail I cracked open the fuel line on the CSI and wala it started tighten the fitting and nothing again WTH. So I guess next time I get a chance tear it back down and dig into it, man I really wanted this over.

Jasons starting with the CSI loose is confusing. To me it says it is getting fuel, fire to the plugs, and injectors are operating. Then tightening it back down it wont start?? Could this be a vacuum problem like the fuel not flowing?, not the vacuum hoses at this time.

Below is a post I am adding to for no start problems and is what I talked to Jason over the phone on. We also compared vacuum lines over the phone and his matched up to mine. We also verified all of his electrical connections as in sensor plugs etc...

I will be searching the internet for some more troubleshooting ideas. We did go thru the troubleshooting section in the Haynes Manual. I have an 85 FSM that I will go thru and see if I can find something in it as well. Any suggestions???

Copied....
Injectors looked clean. I cant see all 4 failing at once.
Swapped with spare AFM. Will run more test if suggested, but it will run on starting fluid.
Swapped coil and igniter. Will run more test if suggested but it will run on starting fluid. I feel the ignition is working.
Fuel pump is pumping. Also jumpered Fuel Pump and it would operate.
Changed Fuel Filter.
Ohmed out Main Relay. Mine you can hear and feel the relay operating. Ohmed out at 74, book has 60 +/_ 20. Two other relays had same results.
Visual and metered all fuses under hood. Will do kick panel later.
Have checked all grounds and they are good.
Checked Solenoid Resistor. Book says 2-3 Ohms, Mine was 3 Ohms same on another Solenoid Resistor. With key on I have 12 volts, key off I have 0 volts. I believe this is correct.
I trust my soldering and removed crimps in harness some time ago.
The Solenoid Resistor passed it test. So I will be giving some of the suggestions you guys have mentioned a try and also start looking into my fuel regulator and dampener. I have been looking at the Haynes and the FSM as well. I like having information from previous problems as a reference as to where to look in the manuals. That is my reference page in the back ground. It actuallys saves some time.

Here is how you do a Fuel Pump Bypass on the 85/86.
Jumper wire the Yellow Plug on Drivers side. ( Jumper wire should be in both contacts for testing, I just didnt have it in for picture purposes and mostly a referece for me at a later time.)

With the jumper wire in and the key turned on, I was able to fill the cup up in about a minute or so. The return hose goes to where my finger is pointing. This is the metal line that I suggest taking an air hose and seeing if it is clear all the way to the fuel pump bracket. I have seen this line and the "J" line on the bracket clogged several times.

Still chugging along on my no start issue. This comes off of the Fuse box and provides power to the Solenoid Resistor. I tested all fuses under the hood, even the 80 amp fuse, with a multi meter just to make sure I hadnt missed one by doing the visual check. I am still not sure where power is sent from the fuse box but it is 12 volts when the key is on and 0 volts when key is off.

I also checked my Main Relay and 2 others that I have as spares. All 3 checked in at 74 ohms. The tolerance is 60 +/- 20.

My $3 noid light. I wasnt able to find one anywhere and this worked great. It flickered each time I cranked it. I just couldnt get any pictures of it lighted.

Here is a diagram of the electric system.

Steps I did to fix my injectors. I will try to make this from easy to hardest steps. All pages I am refering to are from the Haynes manual. I did download a FSM for more info.

1. I tried Starting Fluid just to see if it was electrical or fuel.

2.Check the Ground on the far rear of the intake nut.

3.Check all grounds. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-guide-194413/

4.Run Resistance check on Coil.
Haynes Pg 5-3

5.Check Solenoid Resistor. Pg 4-10 13.22b

6.Check EFI Main Relay Pg 4-9

7.Run Resistance checks on Fuel injectors. There are atleast 3 different types of injectors. Do Not put wrong ones in. Could ruin computer. Pg 4-2
Link to different injectors.. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...ectors-127606/

8. I added a ground to the ECU. Will post a pic later. Link for mor info..http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13329207905461

9.Open wire harness and replace factory clips.https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f115...e-help-178975/
