scary moments yesterday:
first, i blew the turn signal fuse on the highway, so no signals for a good 5 miles. 4-ways still worked (i know they're on a different fuse, but that just means it's not the light's wiring that's bad)
then, i get done fueling up before i get on the road. i go to start it, and everything goes dead (like when you don't have the clutch pressed), except everything's still dead after i stop twisting the key. radio, clock, dash warning lights, outlets (never did check the headlights). i took off the stereo faceplate and the theft light was steady-on, as opposed to blinking like normal. i pushed buttons and kept trying, then it finally came back to normal.
driving down the freeway after that, the hood was loose. i forgot to push it back down. as i was heading down to a turn-out to close the hood, i smelled something like oil/grease on a hot exhaust pipe. it went away eventually.
i think all the electrical stuff is related, as in, it's been raining here, and all the fuses and circuitry for the problem areas are in the driver's kick-panel. time to go check for leaks

I had a similar day in my 82. Replaced the break master bled the system and I was at a stop sign and a lady rolled up next to me and said "your rear break lights aren't working!" Ironically they sensor gave out right after I swapped the master. Then I got on the freeway and my hood was unlocked and ready to fly open. I forgot to shut it all the way. THEN I am driving down my driveway and my alternator light goes on and the alternator is not charging. Turns out it was a bad wire.
Hopefully there are no more surprises with this thing.
When it rains it pours!

thanks mark. i pulled the kick panel off earlier, and found no appearant problems. i'll keep an eye on it, seeing if it happens again. the scary thing isn't that it happened, but rather that i have no clue about the cause

Could it just be that there is an 'internal' wire issue? Meaning, within the insulation, as with many acutely developed Harness-to-ECU issues? Sounds like most 'ground/short' issues I've had.... And they were USUALLY pretty difficult to find when within the dash/chassis electrical......but still very 'findable'! lol.

(this was on the shoulder tonight, so i was just revving)
i noticed this after ~30 mins @50 mph. the needle moved with rpm, but that's as high as it went. maybe i just bumped the needle when the gauge was apart? jeez, i can't win! no ill-effects, noises, or smells... just what appears to be low oil pressure

I see seat belt and anti lock on, what's that other light? IIRC these "sr5" gauges don't have an idiot light for low oil pressure, not sure if low oil pressure triggers a cel or not on the sr5 gauges.
#919
the "antilock" is the fan indicator. seatbelt and parking brake are the only other two lit up, as i was parked and getting out. like i said, nothing was abnormal except the gauge, which leads me to believe it's the sender or gauge itself

LMAO @ antilock. Sounds like something I would do. Which reminds me, now I know what I am gonna do with those LED's (ECT) on the auto trans sr5's in mine to re-purpose them. Green low and red high. I was gonna use em as fog light indicators, but I think I will use my deck lamp switch I picked up a while ago for that. If I can find it.
