I like the Celica. A friend of my son's mom drives one of same/similar year as her mom car. Did Toyota actually make them as a convertible or were they farmed out? Does it have the 22RE also? It's amazing that 15 year old cars still look and run great. I daily drive an '00.

it has a 5s-fe, and yes, it's a factory convertible. the thing needs a new clutch (badly) and it could use a motor for the roof, but it's all there, runs and drives great (except the clutch). i got a smokin' deal on it, too, from a family friend.

small update:
took my truck out for a quick cruise last night, and the alternator died on me. so now i have to go find another one. i had a cs-130, but apparently there are known overheating issues with them. so i will be getting a cs-144

at least it died as i was pulling the parking brake in my driveway. "perfect" timing.
so, the majority of cs144 alts are a 5/6- groove pulley, while i need a v-belt one. it's looking like i'll have to swap out pulleys between the two

Ian, you could pick up a jaguar alt (early 90's i believe) and swap the pulley over. complete plug n play with the stock wiring. might be cheaper than the cs144. I could be wrong tho.

I know there is an adapter for the cs144s for the 3rd gen 4runners. It wouldn't be hard to wire it up though. Do the pulleys have the same diameter holes for the alternator shafts?

Sorry to hear buddy, but good thing you were near home. I'm assuming you're going with these because of higher up put a disease of finding the part of the road? I ended up going with a sole traders, the right near me and the guy seems very knowledgeable and never tried to sell me anything. I'm still haven't installed it, but they seem to have really good records with longevity. It's a totally denso, 3 stator wire, and large stator 130 amp drop in alternator. Guess I'll be living on the edge for a little while till I see if it lasts. But I think I believe I got it for around $110.
I hope the swap and upgrade works out for you man. I hope you're doing well too! Everything staying good at the new place? Not that it's too new, lol. No problems with the neighbors or nothing, right?

yeah, i replaced my denso alt a few years ago with a cs130 (for higher output and easier-to-find parts). last night, the cs130 died on me. i will be installing a cs144 in its place soon.
the new place is doing fine, the neighbors are good, all is well over here. thanks mark!

i picked up a vatozone gm 1-wire cs144 alternator a few weeks ago, and am in the process of installing it. with the sun only being up for short periods of time, it gets cold fast, so part one was last night, part two tonight.
the easy way to get the old cs130 alt out is to remove the radiator fan and shroud and power steering belt. then to get the larger cs144 alternator in, the lower alternator bracket had to come out. it's a tight fit, but it works just fine.
right now, the alternator is just sitting in place, no belt or wiring yet. i'll het that all hooked up either this week or next

i also had to replace the battery. i know there's a procedure for restoring a dead battery, but i didn't want to take a chance on destroying my new alternator.
now i can move it to my new house and let it sit for a few months while i figure out this engine situation...
