alright, so heres the deal, my dad gave me his truck just after I joined the airforce, and put over 100,000 km on it in 2 years. then the head gasket went, and couldn't get it running right after that and let it sit for another 2 years.
in that time I decided i was going to do a sas on it and keep the 22re, keep it simple. so i picked up an '83 truck as a donor vehicle for the axles and trans/transfer case. the 83 ran pretty good so i wheeled it until the frame decided to break, then striped it of anything i thought would be useful to me later.
then a friend of mine was telling me he was going to do a 2jz swap in his supra and would have a 7mge to sell, i thought, well i could be looking for one. turns out he didn't go for the swap, but i found another 7m and a transmission to go with it.
As the truck sits right now, it has a downey 3" lift on the back already on, the front is waiting for the spring hanger kit i ordered and I'm going over the the axles and engine while I wait. oh and I've got some 4.88's to pop in the axles, one has an e-z locker i picked up a while ago, and I've got a stock toyota LSD from my surf in another 3rd I can toss in. I do want to put selectable lockers in eventually, I just want to get it all up and running.
I'll put up some pictures when I bring my camera to the house.
this should be fun.

its been a while since this has been updated, but here we go.
the swaps are almost complete, the front axle is hung from the frame, just need some shocks so I can mount up the shock tower, the engine, transmission ans transfer case are mounted up, but the clutch fork popped off somewhere along the way so it has to come back off.
I used the wiring instructions from supracharged and it worked great, almost. my gauges aren't working right as of now, i'll be working on that later. i had a huge headache trying to figure out why the engine wasn't starting after i had the wiring done. I was so frustrated I drove the hour and a half to the nearest toyota dealer and got them to photocopy some pages out of the fsm for the supra and pickup. it became very apparent what I did wrong when he handed me the page with the location of the relays for the pickup and it dawned on me I had cut two wires on the circut opening relay. when I got back I fixed that mistake and turned the key, fired right up. I then went to work on fixing the rust holes in the floor and wheel wells. It didn't take too much, and I then bed linered the inside of the cab and ran my stereo wires while the carpet was out.
once that was done, the interior all went back in. a set of 4 runner seats are now in place of the 60/40 split bench and theres also a centre console from the same 4runner between the seats. I picked up an E-locker with the switch and control box that will be going in the rear once I regear it. I fabed up a snorkle and airbox as well, used 3" exhaust tubing for the pipes, some thin steel was cut and welded up into the airbox and the cover is made of plexiglass so I can see the condition of the filter without taking the cover off.
I'm using a supra rad for cooling and 2 10 inch flex a lite's in a pusher configuration hooked up to a thermo switch.
I'm at a bit of a stand still while I wait for some parts from trail gear and marlin crawler, so I can button this bad boy up and take it out for a rip.
airbox pics.

here we have the front axle with all of the un-needed brackets cut off, my Fiance helping clean up the housing and the housing and knuckles painted and ready to get put together.

here I've got the 2 engines I had originally picked up for the swap, I was told one was a runner, but it was a guess as to which one it was. I guessed wrong and ended up with an engine I couldn't get running.
the guy I got the engines from did give me a really good deal on the transmission and bellhousing. I think I payed $60 for both. the trans its still running strong.
I got the E-locker used and need to regear to 4:88's so it got pulled apart and rebuilt with new gears and a solid pinion spacer

I got spic of the airbox and snorkel installed. the snorkel goes down the passenger side a pillar, which I welded 2 tabs onto and 2 corresponding tabs onto the tube and they bolt together. the 45-ish degree elbow was a spare part from either the 22re or from the 7m.
I had to do a bit of trimming under the fender to get everything to fit, but it turned out pretty good.

so after a while I manged to get everything buttoned up and it all works! the first pic it was sitting low, I liked it, but I had my almost no up travel, so I added a few cruiser leaves to my packs and got a couple inches.
I then got to go out for a trip to may lake, it it worked awesome! except I kept losing front driveshaft bolts. that was most likely due to the square driveshaft I have up front.

the first pic here is from a few months after I had everything running. I ended up in a hole with the throttle stuck wide open because the throttle cable got pinched between the brake booster and the intake manifold.

the other 2 pics are an engine harness I made from some aircraft wire and a bulkhead cannon plug I scrounged from work. I put this harness was on the one engine I had that ended up having no compression in 4 cylinders.
I was super frustrated that it wasn't running and found a nice and cheap cressida for sale and picked that up.
I might try that harness again sometime. it was so much smaller than the stocker. and it took about 3 weeks of working after work for a few hours.

thanks Duke. theres a bunch of work to do still, all the repairs that had been previously done are no undoing themselves. the rocker panels under the rear windows have now opened up to the point you can clearly see the interior from the outside. The bed had some rust repair done around the wheel arches that were mostly bondo that is now gone and I've got a few inches of ragged rusty wheel well.
I did stumble upon a 94 4runner really cheap I am thinking about swapping the cab out with.
